Hello,my wife and I are looking for a holiday home to buy that we can use for the 2x 90 days option as opposed to applying for residence. Is there an area that is better for public transport, shops, restaurants, bars etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi again, should have said we are thinking of 90 days July,August,September and then January,February March. Does everything really shut down over the winter or is this a mith?

Thanks again,

Lammy.

Hi,

We live in Los Alcazares which is on the opposite side of the Mar Manor. Whenever we go to La Manga strip it always seems closed or in a state of closing. Definitely closed after the main Spanish season (July and August).

Have you thought about Los Alcazares there is everything you required. Plenty going on, lots of bars/restaurants with regular public transport.

Hi once again Nick, we have had a good look and liking what we are seeing. Hope to get across when things start getting back to normal. If you have any further advice on areas in which to concentrate our search ect it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks again, Lammy.

Hi Lammy,

Depends what you are looking for?

The main strip with the bars and restaurants is the area alongside the 525 hotel (you’ll see it on a map). Though there are plenty of others throughout the town. The promenade and the beach are also fantastic, again with some great beach bars. Plus a beautiful beach.

The old part of town is more Spanish, but still some fantastic restaurants.

Most of the Brits live by and around Los Narejos (still part of LA) which is around what’s called the arches on the north side of town. Though there are plenty of other areas as well. In fact we live the opposite end of the town (South), just outside, in a small place called Lomas Del Rame, which has a village feel.

The only issue with Los Alcazares is flooding. In 2019 it was greatly affected by the September Gota Fria, which was the worst storm in 100 years. The council have done a great job in cleaning up the town, if fact it’s far better than it was before. They have also put in lots of flood defenses to protect it if it were to happen again. It mainly affected the old town. However, if you ask on this forum either myself or others will advise if where you are looking at was affected.

There is a large ex pat community who live here permanently, plus lots with holiday homes, so the winter is very vibrant.

Good luck. The Mar Manor area is great, and it’s a fantastic life.

Hi Lammy

We have been doing as you are considering for the last few years and after trying all months have found March, April (Easter is a fantastic time in Spain!), May and then September, October and November to be the best months to be  there. The Summer months are very, very busy to the point where parking becomes almost impossible and everywhere is unbearably crowded. The Winter months can be a bit chilly (and we love Christmas at home with the family in normal times). Spring and Autumn are perfect for nice warm weather without being too hot and most places are open for business. This is just our opinion and are sure that some will disagree but  it works perfectly for us as we travel by road in our van with a motorcycle in the back so it is a great time for touring.

Los Alcazares is our town of choice as it has just about everything we could possibly need and want (make sure you do the Tapas trail in the Spring, just glorious) ,  is very friendly with a nice mix of European and local Spanish folk.

If we can help with any questions you may have please feel free to get in touch.
