Hello,

With resident status we arrived at the Port of Bilbao yesterday to drive to La Torre. It was the complete opposite of what I was expecting from the Spanish authorities.  First stop, the border control point drive through kiosks. Passport and NIE shown and that was it !  Then onto the Customs check. More interested in the pets than anything else. Checked the pets Health certificates etc and that was it......on our way. Not once were we asked about having had a PCR test for Covid.

The fact that you had prepared to present a PCR did the job.

Surely it would have been in the system though that you had a negative pcr thats why they didn't ask for it? Or are you saying you travelled without one and took a chance x

My wife and I re-entered Spain from the UK via Alicante Airport on Dec 28th - with TIEs, PCRs and QRs.

The border guys scrutinised the TIEs/passports.

We had our PCRs done by an independent lab service (there are quite a few of these in the UK) - no way for the Spanish Authorities to verify (online) every test provider.

They verified the QR online though, and by the time we got home (an our later) we had received emails reminding us of our obligations.

Certainly didn't "take a chance" and had the PCR test results with us. As they were for travel purposes it was done via Boots and they gave us a negative certificate. I can't imagine that a private UK company would have to log the results on a foreign system. They did not ask where we were going so they would not know. They just asked for our passport numbers so they could put these on the test result to create a link.

I am telling you guys, we're traveling from the US in 2 days.  I have an Spth (Spanish Travel Health) app and have read all the rules, regulations & restrictions to obsession point. Don't want to be turned back or charged an incredible non compliant fee! The so called added non expensive test such LAMP & TMA are not known to where I live in Florida. The only test  available RT -PCR  not only are costly but the 72 hrs time frame coming from 7 hrs time difference in a 19 hrs flight duration can drive one nuts! Gotta say I couldn't go to sleep researching and even wrote to Spanish Health gov. Good thing I am not traveling from the state of California!! In a nut shell, hubby and I done our best to pay for the  darn expensive test (Capitalismo puro y duro) I hope they don't just nonchalantly let us through and not even ask for the PCR test! Really??! On the other hand, I rather they don't ask for it because who knows?! Sometimes they can get so cocky and I am going to be so tired from the stress before the trip and during the trip itself... This too shall pass. Thank you ya'll.

I think the airports will be more au fait with the rules than the ferry port. I suggest you have available your PCR test, proof of address in Spain, your QR code and obviously passport ready. With the long flight and time difference I think 72hrs before departure will be accepted. If you do not speak Spanish, perhaps a few phrases prepared to cover this eventuality ? Good luck........oh and don't forget to wear your mask ALL the time, even in the streets.

Thank you so much. I will definitely follow your advice. We came to our home in the Us  for 2 months after 1 yr in Spain wehere the Pandemic caught up with us. We're Spanish residents, a process that took us 2 yrs to complete but all forgotten and moving on with our beautiful retirement life in Spain which makes coming home to the US with much more gratitude. Here in FL, people do their own thing when it comes to Covid19. We came here already disciplined in Spain to wear our masks and social distance which we have continued to do for the past 2 months regardless of what Floridians  choose to do. All is well and thank you for the reminder and reinforcement. It was worth coming back home for we both have been vaccinated but will continue to mask on and social distance. It's the right thing to do.

Wishing the very best to all.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum but can see that it may be very helpful! We have a property in Spain but with a ‘non residents’ status but do have an NIE

We have booked to travel from Portsmouth to Bilbao via Brittany Ferries on 17th May. Does anyone know if Spain is allowing travel from UK without residents status? We will have had our two vaccinations by then and will get a PCR certificate to show customs. Thanks Angela

At the moment, you will NOT be let in unless you have resident status, even with a test and vaccinations. No UK citizens are allowed in unless they are resident. This was double checked by Bilbao Border Control who ran my NIE number through their system before be allowed to proceed.  Check on the UK Govt website for updates because all the information that you will need is there.
