Hello Lesley

Just trying to be helpful here; what I would say is 'look at your life style ' or what you wish for long term.  There seem to be many areas (urbanisation) where you need reliability of a car to get anywhere.  If you don't mind this then there are no problems.  Lots of these areas may not have accessibility for public transport (or it may be irregular) so you may feel slightly stranded.  Property is more costly as you nearer the coast.

I know we all have our perceived ideas but I wish you all the best.

I always think it is a shame that people move to an area without staying there for a short time renting for a month it would have given you a more realistic idea of what is available plus the restrictions of living so far out from the coast a taxi costs between 30 & 40 euros to get to anywhere plus return means costs of up to 80 € a day for anywhere interesting and the sea this can be costly for renters or non drivers if you like a quiet place then this is it but if you still have a chance try it first you might like it or not but you can have a choice. Otherwise you will get biased views from persons who live there and people like me who think it is to far out to get enjoyment local

Roldan is a 20 min walk from La Torre or 5 min bike ride? We go there all the time. Lots of restaurants and bars, very local I would say? Local buses from there as well.

My point exactly that the only way yout will get an unbiased view or advice is to rent a place then find out for yourself La Torre is for people who drive and a so called 20 min? walk down unlit country lanes after a meal out in Roldan is not practical advice.

I only hope that instead of listening to biased views from myself or others is to go to a place rent for 6 months then if you still want to buy do it but la Torre is for drivers who do not want to live near the coast and are happy to stay within the Resort  because without a car, la torre is not for the normal person, but again rent do not buy before you try it out, that is not only La Torre, anywhere, or you will find you have committed yourself to living somewhere not practical for you.

If people had done this before they bought their property many would not be living there now.

I beg to differ! I can assure you it is perfectly practical! We do it all the time and have seen many other people doibg the same. Its not a marathon!  I don't think I am being biased at all, just saying what i and my family do! I think I am a reasonably 'normal' person thank you! Quite a judgmental post I think. All I was pointing out was it is, in my humble opinion, quite easy to walk or cycle, we actually enjoy walking back and forth, especially after a wonderful meal, sometimes very late and never had any problems and we've been doing it for 11 years! Last week my son and children were over and we all did it a couple of times. Horses for courses I think, if you are disabled or for what ever reason cant walk or cycle or just don't want to then i agree you need a car but then this can be said for a lot of these sort of resorts, some have no town nearby. We didn't rent first but buying here was one of the best things we have done. I agree may be good to rent if not sure but opinions were asked for!

As I said biased views you are obviously an owner.

My point is that any one sensible who is making a financial commitment should take a sensible option and do not buy without trying first. We recd a letter from someone who bought a house then found out how far from the beach they were and how far from sensible shopping they were we replied that they should not have bought without knowledge of the area etc why you take exception to sensible advice I do not see as I said anywhere you want to buy try it first on TV they showed a couple who wanted to buy there but when they found out how isolated you can be they withdrew there offer which was unfair on all concerned anything you do is best tried without making a commitment

And if you can honestly say that if you had come to rent a place first then looked at torrivieca, los Alcazares, Santiago. You might have found something you prefer.

With regard to your walk to Roldan? If you buy or rent a property at the main entrance near the fountain, to walk to Roldan in 20 minutes would be a feat worthy of entering the Olympics and being disabled or old would add to the non reality of that advice especially that most people who move here are retired.

We had a place up the coast and much prefer it here. This is my opinion obviously and of course I'm a owner. I was answering the original post , who asked did anyone have anything to share! Sorry if I disagree with your views, and just for your information we do not live by the back gate and it took us 25 mins to get to the Royal Bite with 3 children. We'll all have to apply for the next Olympics!! We absolutely love here and looked around a lot before buying off plan!! Its a beautiful safe place to live and visit, all our big family love it too. Hopefully with the Hotel open there will be a lot more going on and we now have bowls, basket bowl, football pitches and a few outdoor gyms and paddle ball courts going in,  along with loads of swimming pools and childrens play areas. Its not for everyone as we all have different needs and wants but please respect other peoples opinions. The original post wanted views.

It is a shame that you can not accept constructive views surely even you with your views would advise someone to rent before they bought?

I can not believe that anyone would advise the alternative which is to buy blind then find out wether you like it later,  on TV place in the sun even they said that in the winter la Torre is very quiet and that local towns like Roldan are mostly closed due to lack of trade.

I will continue to advise anyone thinking of buying a property in spain  ANYWHERE

To rent first and make sure you like the life and the position before investing their hard earned savings,

You were lucky you bought of plan, we have represented 100s of purchasers in Corvera, Roda, la Terraces and many more who purchased off plan, then saw the company they purchased off go into receivership losing all their money.

Plus to buy here is financially a disaster area with all of us losing a minimum of 50% of the purchase price.

So as i said I will continue to advise caution and not to listen to owners advice on purchase with abandon, many of these people are Brits retiring it's their life savings and the sales blurb is unfair on those looking for a new life. Take time and use that time to investigate do not trust anyone, agents solicitors sadly are not controlled like in the uk.

This is not an argument it is an exchange of views but my advice to everyone is rent before you buy.
