Hi. I am currently considering purchasing a holiday home in la torre resort and would be grateful for any feedback. We have four young kids and are looking for somewhere to bring them on holidays that is safe and has some activities.

Can you tell me if there are activities or a kids club onsite. I have read some comments on line about la torre some positive and some negative.

My wife is worried it any be to far from amenities like bars and restaurants.

Is the resort lively and has the hotel reopened ?

Is a car required to get to nearest town or is it safe to walk into ?

Is there activities to do on site and in the areas nearby ?

Would a villa on the mar menor golf resort be a better option.

Any and all help greatly appreciated

Hi Jan

Many thanks for your reply.  We have had a lot of advice to rent initially which is what we've decided to do.  Even though we have visited and stayed in the costa calida area for many years to actually live there will be completely different and do have the fear if we sell up and it's n...

...ot what we expected then we would be stuck with nothing to return too.

Once again many thanks for your reply.  It helps so much hearing from people who do live out in Spain who can give an honest opinion on what life is like.

Regards

Caroline

The previous reply said you can stay for 6 months. That's not strictly true.

You can stay for 90 days (3 months) in 180. So you can stay for 6 months a year, but not continuously.

Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear.

By their very nature golf resorts are usually out of town.  As far as I know La Torre is no different. There are a number of bars on restaurants and a supermarket on site.  Mar Menor golf resort is a little closer to amenities as it is 10 minutes from Los Alcazares by car.   Both resorts will have community fees.

Have you looked at the Orihuela Costa.  It’s much livelier all year round.

Ah thanks

We just need to get this right as it wil be our home.We just want a community resort with a good president and administration. The last community we experienced had issues with noise and barking dogs and little/no action taken.Beyond us why owners let dogs bark all day.Anyway we shall do some  inspection trips offered by some agents and have a look around La Torre.

Best,John.

It is a massive decision John.

I was on La Torre last week and it seemed deserted.  Perhaps others who live there can give you more information.  Be wary of agents they tend to point you to areas they want you to buy.

I have a holiday home on the Mar Menor golf resort.  It’s a beautiful well run resort but you need a car as there is no public transport.  There is about 30% occupancy all year round. Torre Pacheco is the nearest town with probably all the amenities you need.  However if you’re thinking of whitewashed pueblos you’ll be disappointed.  Unfortunately, you can’t pick your neighbours so that is always a risk.

If moving wasn’t so expensive I would move closer to a more lively area, possibly La Zenia or Cabo Roig.

I for one wouldn’t move from beautiful Javea to the Costa Calida.  This is just my opinion.

The best advice is to rent first, it’s an expensive mistake to make if you get it wrong.

Good luck.

Hola    I have new neighbors  who said     La Torre   has very high    management / site fees       also do some research   over   flooding

take a look across the other side of the RM19  road       Balsicas       then [email protected]      for Sierra Golf        or  Propertunities (if spelled correctly)     they also rent out a property  and live in  Sierra Golf

there may be shop due to open  ??    high up so does not flood (as yet)   but a low cost for residents to play golf ,   no management fees

you can eat and drink  at the Golf Club house     or   Manolis   and  Swim in the  Blue Palm   bar

will need a car    20 minutes away from San Javer

It's all personal as to what you want to get out of your holiday home. Best thing is to make a list of what you want and see which area delivers.

My family with young kids did not like the resorts due to quiet area and same pools every day but they are beautiful places.

Now we live in town a bike ride of 10 mins to centre of everything

My husband and I have been planning our permanent move to Spain and are now in a position to sell up and move over.   We have spent the last 3 years visiting the area and having a look around and had initially thought La Torre sounded a good place to live however have recently read a lot of ...

...negative comments about the area and wondered if anyone who lives there can advise what it is really like.  The comments I have heard is that it's like a ghost town, many of the properties have been abandoned making the area look run down and many of the amenities are now closed.  I would love to hear from anyone who lives there all year round of what the community is like.

Caroline

Hi,  my daughter lives on la Torre with her family., I don't.  It suits my daughter,  it has a safe and secure reputation.  Very big and flat.  The children have more freedom than in most communities.  There are a lot of people who live there so it does not feel desolate as some people would have you believe but it is quiet.  What it will be like now everywhere is opening up I can't say.  I do think a car would be essential for most people.

It would not be for me, although I love going and spending time there with my family. I mostly don't drive in Spain and prefer to be closer to the beach and on a bus route.  So whereas it can be perfect for some it's not everyone's cup of tea.

You won't know unless you rent and spend time there.   It's a big expense in costs when buying in Spain.  I hope this helps, I know it's what most people say.
