Merry Christmas everyone

Can anyone help please

I have for years paying my annual tax through my solicitor

It’s worked really well until this year

The solicitor now tells me she has been charged for my payment sent from my uk bank

She asked I sort the tax out at the uk end

I have explained that I’ve always been charged a fee for sending money to Spain

The bank have told me there is nothing to do at the uk end and they do not have anything to do with what my solicitor s bank charges her

We’ve always had a good service from her from the past 17 years but I have to say she’s being rather rude towards us and says she has no issues from other uk clients and insists I sort the tax out  but I carnt my bank havnt a clue about her bank changes

Can anyone help or surgest anything I may be missing

I’m considering using a new solicitor too

Many thanks all keep safe

For starters I would change from using a solicitor to do your taxes and change to a company that provide the same service for far less money. I use Spanishtaxforms, their charges are at least less than half of what a solicitor charges.

With regard to the banking fees charged. Since Jan 1st this year some Spanish banks are charging for transfers sent from the UK to the EU (even though the UK and EU have an agreement that this should not be happening).  This is taken from a publication "Banks part of the Single European Payments Area, which the UK remains a member of after Brexit, are not supposed to charge more for cross-border payments than domestic ones, whether they are made in euros or not."

One of the ways around this is to use Wise (Formerly Transferwise). I have done several transfers this year and have not been charged any fees

Hope this helps

Many thanks for the information

Yes I was aware of this info and my solicitor charges hardly anything… she’s been invaluable so I’m ok with the charge

But

I probably wanted to know if anyone was having the same trouble regarding solicitor s asking for their tax being added at the uk end …. So frustrating as they don’t and have no means of adding Spanish tax  in the uk , but my solicitor will not accept this information why does everything have to be so difficult

Many thanks once again
