Hi.

I'm looking to purchase a bank repossession. It has never been lived in. When I viewed it there was an awful smell. I'm assuming as the water not on and toilets never used. Is anyone else experienced this and will the smell go away?

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Sharondee

The rotten cabbage smell is usually associated with dried out water traps in waste pipes and toilet u-bends.

It may clear once water is re-introduced and the building ventilated. You may need to clean down surfaces in affected rooms with a good disinfectant if the odor persists.

To avoid this happening again, when you leave the property for extended periods cling film over toilet bowls and leave plugs in sinks and showers and plug overflow outlets on sinks.

Good luck

Bob

Thanks so much. I was really worried about it.

Probably no water in the waste pipe traps due to lack of use

It might be a good idea if when you buy your apartment you take on a good Property Management company.  I know this one looks after quite a few properties there.
