Hi, Son and partner are visiting in September from Ireland. Dublin to Corvera not operating so have to use Alicante Airport. Can anybody give me a steer on who is reliable and who to avoid for certain hire
Prices are higher this year, as I expect car hire companies are trying to make up for losses last year. Although, by September they may reduce as out of the Peak holiday seasons.
I would recommend Centauro and have also had good service from RecordGo; but definitely stay away from Goldcar / Interrent.
Hope this helps!

Car Hire companies in general attract poor reviews, however TrustPilot shows Centauro as 3.4/5, where Click Rent are 1.5/5.
In a Which report in May 2021, the top companies scored 80% - but you pay much higher rental rates for Hertz, Avis, etc.
Centauro scored 62% and Goldcar were lowest at 42%. Click Rent weren't included in the report.
Unfortunately the car companies with the lowest upfront hire costs expect to make up the difference with very high insurance charges and then, if you don't buy their insurance, find reasons to charge you for 'damage'.
Alternatively, you can pay a lot more for the upfront car hire and insurance, but have less hassle & worry with the whole collection > drive > return process...
The usual things to look for are:
High pressure selling to buy their insurance, with 'warnings' of high charges for the smallest scratch, etc. If you do buy their insurance then they'll be happy, but the insurance alone will almost certainly cost you far more than the car hire rate that you have quoted
The most common complaint is being charged exorbitant charges for minimal or non-existent damage that you have 'caused' - which can include damage that was already there when you collected the car. Always check the car carefully on collection and photograph every panel, wheel, etc. Ensure that any marks are shown on the rental forms. Then do the same on return and ensure the agent signs off the car as being correct and gives you a copy of his report there & then (not emailed to you later).

I’ve had the best experience with Centauro for the past 7 years, they are on site and ground floor when returning car, very easy.
Stay away from Goldcar.
Subscribe to Centauro and they will send you discount links
Cracking, thanks!!!
Adding to a very clear picture of who/who not to go to.
