Hi All

We are hoping to come out to our property in July so have been looking at car hire prices. We always use Centauro, not the cheapest but no nonsense, quality cars and never try and cheat you (unlike some do apparently). For three weeks rental of the smallest car they want over £1,000!!! Last year in September it was less than £200. All companies seem to be trying to catch up on lost revenue from this past year. This is to be expected to some degree, but 500% is shameful and will stop many coming I’m sure, flights are only £50 return!

Anyone found any more palatable deals with reputable companies??

Thanks

Brian

This happened to me in 2010 I think it was.

Sky high prices so I bought a car in Spain & park it at the airport.

If you ran a car rental company would you want to rent out a car that you had paid, say, €15000 for, that would last around 3 years, and be rented for around 20 weeks for less? Add on maintenance and the sort of deals that were around would now be financial suicide.

Roland's answer makes more sense, but build in costs of the parking firm sorting out servicing and ITVs for you, as you would not want to spend part of your precious holiday time sitting in a garage or ITV station.

You can often rent Centauro cars on Rentalcars.com for less than going direct. Better to change your travel dates as renting a car midsummer is going to be expensive! That does sound a bit steep. Avoid Golcars and Internet

Thanks Bob, very helpful advice. I see their prices for Centauro are pretty much the same, but have other cheaper options with Wiber.com, I’m not familiar with them, I’ll search the reviews.......

Hi Brian,

I have also found this problem. I am looking for a car for July in Los Alcazares but prices are quadruple what I normally pay. Let me know if you find a solution

A 2-day journey each way, with hotels and food and fuel, compared to 3 or 4 hours? Makes a big difference to a fortnight's holiday and a total nonsense for a week!

We have found the same problem.....extortionate rental prices, so we’ve decided to do like Roland did and buy a second hand car and keep it at the airport, as we’ll be making many more trips in the future ( hopefully!!). It also gets around the worry of getting scratches/ knocks in a rental car and then being ripped off with extra charges!
