Hi

With-out wanting to sound like a broken record, I just wanted to pre-warn everyone of the rip off/scam Interrent / Goldcar have tried on me.

On arrival at Murcia airport I was told that an additional payment would need to be made relating to the Full to Full fuel policy but that this would be refunded when I returned the car with a full a tank of petrol. I was also told that as I am a Goldcar member I was going to have my car upgraded from my original booking. I specifically checked that there would be no additional charge for this and was categorically told there would not be.

I had not received the refund onto my credit card so today contacted Interrent / Goldcar about this, only to be told that this payment was not related to the fuel policy but was due to the car upgrade that I had requested! They have even tried to provide a document which states this but is completely different to the one I have a copy of which I signed at the airport.

I am well aware of the company's poor reputation but had always been very careful to check the car over with them when returning it to the airport and not had any problems previously.

I have contacted my credit card company who will be disputing the payment on my behalf and they confirmed that this is a frequent con amongst others used by the likes of Goldcar.

So if you're offered an upgrade by Interrent/Goldcar even if they say it is free then simply refuse or better still like me from now don't use them in the first place!

Kind regards

Ryan

We have the power to put them out of business by simply not using them, It is widely known now, why people still use this company is beyond me.

And I get that, we all want a good deal, what I mean is, Gold Car have been all over social media lately, (not sure about MSM) yet people still use them, maybe they dont have facebook etc. I always use Centauro, never had a problem with them. (Yet)

Hi

Yes prior to my last booking I too had used Goldcar on a number of occasions and never had a problem previously, so I do have a thorough understanding of how car rental works. I always return the car with a full tank of petrol and in a clean condition.

What happened in this situation was a deliberate attempt by Goldcar to defraud me as I did not request the upgrade and specifically checked that I would not be charged any extra for this and was categorically told I would not and that the additional payment of 100 Euros would be refunded once I returned the car with a full tank of petrol.

Slightly confused by the last poster to be honest and how they are attempting to defend such a blatant attempt to rip someone off!

Thanks

Ryan

To Idiot123

I had used Goldcar on xx occasions without issue, together  with many many people I assume, however on the xx +1 occasion they defrauded me of 850 euro. (nothing whatsoever to do with cleaning sun lotion off of the back seat, nothing whatsoever to do with 'kerbing wheels' etc. a simple case of fraud!!!)

Thankfully my insurance company paid this excess to me, despite the fact they also got no response whatsoever from their own communications to Goldcar.

You have been lucky my friend, but there are so many of these incidents made public on the internet, please don't try to defend the undefendables!

They are blatant crooks who subsidise your 20 euro weekly hires, by ripping off 000's of innocent people. You've only got to do the math - how on earth can they stay in business renting cars at those rates?

Keep using them yourself by all means, but you may regret betting on the same number every time!!!

What an absolute muppet you are. You are certainly well named.

You know it all and everyone trolls them via the internet?  And you even manage to gloat about the supposed numpties. You are a real twat 123 and the real numpty!

Enjoy your subsidised rental. Hopefully some karma will pay you a visit down the line.

They are fraudsters and scammers, pure and simple and I have no regrets whatsoever in saying so and saying it loud!

I returned the car with no damage and had taken photos before /after as supposed 'protection'. I only found out about the 850 deduction when I checked my credit card statement two months later.

I tried calling Goldcar to try and establish why they had taken the money and after a dozen calls and repeated emails, they eventually advised that it was to cover some damage to the bonnet and front wing of the car. They supplied pictures to substantiate. A bit of a mistake as the pictures were of a different colour of car to the one I had actually rented!

I contacted my credit card company immediately to raise a dispute and they tried contacting Goldcar, but radio silence! I then contacted my insurance company to raise a dispute/claim and despite repeated attempts, Goldcar did not respond to them either. Thankfully my claim was successful, but had I been in Spain longer, I would have raised a Denouncia against Goldcar.

Yes, they do take advantage of the more vulnerable, who perhaps cannot or are unable to challenge these fraudulent bullies. I have no doubt their employees are encouraged to participate in these scams, otherwise they too will probably be bullied and out of a job!

As I said in a previous post - your forum name is very apt, however perhaps your should consider Pretentious Idiot No. 1.

I shall not waste any more of my time with you in this debate, suffice to let other members of the forum judge.

Hi

Thanks for your comments 'Mountwest' and for being the voice of reason here!

I heard today via Argus Car Hire(the comparison site I booked through) and who were dealing with my complaint that Goldcar will be refunding me the additional payment. An admission of guilt from them if ever there was one!

Kind regards

Ryan
