Hi there

My husband and I have recently bought a holiday/retirement home in Lo Pagan. Whilst we want to get on with our neighbours we are learning Spanish so finding it hard to talk right now. We want to get to know ex-pats in the area and wondered if there are any local bars or clubs we should go ot? We are here until the new year. Thanking you in advance for any advice.

Paul and Sian

Hi Paul & Sian, well you've done everything right so far, great choice and learning Spanish too👏.

I would suggest you visit the Island Bar. It's very friendly, lots of expats and people like ourselves who own holiday places in the area. Trina (Irish) & Iago (Spanish) are more than helpful and we've met so many great people there in the last year alone. It's located on the main road up to the town of San Pedro, right hand side as you go towards the town, beside Estrella bar and Liberty - painted green. Mostly Irish, British and sundry other nationalities. Houd music pub too. (On Instagram)

Another good spot is Kiss Cafe, also very friendly clientele there. Casual but good eatery on the sea front on the main drag.

Maxx bar is another, also on the sea front - both Indian owned, very good English.

You'll have no problem in most places.

We're in Ireland right now but back in Feb. Hopefully we'll meet up in the Spring

You'll be amused to hear I've been learning Spanish for 20 years, still not fluent but enjoy the experience. You'll find you'll get by very well in most places and local people, especially younger generation, often speak good English & are very helpful

Best of luck and if you need any information please PM me. I have a Spanish no.

Cheers Ann & Pat

Thank you so much. We live very close to the Kiss Cafe but will try to visit some of your other suggestions before we leave.

Thank you so much

...well Max Beach, the Indian restaurant is no more than 150 Mt's up the prom. However, Prab( the owner) is getting married in India and it's like a dream to me that he might be closing for a few weeks round Jan/Feb time. But in between those 2 is La Barra and certainly  when we visit in May/June & Sept/Oct there is an afternoon Happy Hour which is usually overrun by expats. Whether it's open all year I can't be sure.
