How old is your property? Do you have MCB's and an RCD within the house? This is where it should trip! I really would advise getting a qualified electrician to give the complete installation an 'MOT' for safety sake, particularly when yours seems to correct itself! If you have the correct installation, the trips and RCD will protect you. I wouldn't want the meter outside to do that job. They changed my meter last year, and I have looked at it only to take readings. I haven't noticed any resetting switch/trip on it, I'll have a look when I go back.

I can't see the point in having a deliberate low supply which trips as soon as you put more load on it. I have 5.75kw, and all works as it should, I can't be bothered to work out what to switch on before it trips, which would always be at the most inconvenient time. I know it costs more in standing charges, but that is Spain, not as cheap as it was year's ago.
