It does sound like it has a lot of appeal. We would be there in winter and happy to try and integrate and learn better Spanish . Like you say, a  contender.

Lo Pagan is lovely but since you indicated that you will be here a lot in winter do bear in mind that many places close for three months, Nov, Dec & Jan. Our son & partner spent Christmas there in ‘21 and despite having the use of a car found themselves very frustrated at the lack of places to eat out in. We’re not usually here in Dec so couldn’t have advised them. Otherwise though it really is a lovely location for a holiday home, lots of lovely walks, great area for cycling and good shops etc. There are plenty of sports facilities available too. Oh and not leaving out the lovely beach. Good luck with your search.

Hi Mark,

Plenty of good comments for you yo consider which are all personal experiences, and mine is no different.

We first tried our luck in Spain in 2001, we bought in Quesada first, terrible place. Then we bought in Playa Flamenca, much better but we were in a quad house with one holiday let to the rear.I wont give you detail but we sold and moved to Santiago de la Riberia in 2004. Completely different area and very nice but we lived in a terrace house 500 mts from a very large traveller family who did most of their (illegal) business during the hours of darkness.! This was uncomfortable even though in fairness we never had trouble. So we started to look around again after the recession and really fell on our feet. We viewed 2 apartments in Lo Pagan, both on the lagoon so we purchased and it was the best decision we ever made. The views, day and night are truly magnificent and while it is difficult to get anything near the water now it is still possible with cost the only implication but no matter what you pay it is worth every cent...or penny!

We hired a car every time we came but I fully agree with other contributors that the complete care hire has become a nightmare run by cowboys. We eventually purchased a small car from Saez in San Javier, great value, an honest dealer who garages our car free when we return and drops us and collects us from the airport in Corvera.

I would also suggest that you nook into a small hotel or hire an apartment for a couple of months, sus out the area and be sure to only settle for what you want. Property value is good here but you need transport, even a bike or electric scooter. Please dont even consider living on a golf resort, too remote and too many "foreigners"

Best wishes

Seamus

We live in lo pagan and its wonderful... We had 12 years on la torre golf resort inbetween Balsicas and roldan, and to be honest you do get a little bored been so far away from the coast, there is no transport just the odd bus and i believe its 60-70 euros taxi down to the beach and all the bars. ... Even in bad weather you are still able to enjoy the coastal walks and the lovely little Spanish bars and restaurants... Everything within walking distance or a nice steady bike ride to some of the most beautiful little coastal resorts on the mar menor.... San pedro is the town for lo pagan, again very busy, great little shops, fantastic monday market, banks, bars and restaurants in abundance....

If you are looking for somewhere to stay, drop me a line... We have an apartment....

Seamus very grateful for the reply.  First thing is the golf resort feedback.  We could be ruling that out.  The experience people like yourself have in Spain is invaluable.  Eventually we would like to live there permanently and I guess a car is inevitable.  But initially yes a scooter/ bike etc will work.  Day and night views would be living the dream . I  know all that sunshine can make anywhere feel fantastic, but maybe if we buy in the wrong place reality can kick in !!

I'm at York races today which is one of our favourite places to be. But guess what - grey clouds and rain ⛈️.

Many thanks again
