Hi

Does anyone know please whether Hospital Universitario de Torrevieja or Hospital Universitario Los Arcos are public/state run of they are private hospitals? As I am trying to find out whether the EHIC/GHIC card would be accepted at either hospital.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Kind regards

Ryan

They are both social security hospitals. Your EHIC/GHIC cards could be accepted under certain circumstances but I would advise you to go to your local social security health centre with your EHIC/GHIC card and passport first and they should attend to you and will refer you to the hospital if they consider it necessary. EHIC/GHIC cards are generally for emergency use and charges could be made for any other circumstances.

Thanks very much for your helpful response - it is really appreciated.

Do you know where the nearest social security health centre is to San Pedro del Pinatar please or how I can find this out?

Kind regards

Ryan

If you know where the Correos or Mercadona is, then the 24 hour urgencias is just a little further down the road. The urgencias entrance is right opposite the farmacia and is called "SUAP - Servicio de Urgencias de Attención Primaria, San Pedro del Pinatar". Ryan, I'm not sure if you are a full time resident or not but if you are the advice Mags gave us spot on but if you are not a resident you should go to the clinic down on the marina - it's located in front of the large car park there, a little bit further on from the fish market.

Cheers

Ann

No problem Ryan - we found this out the hard way after queuing for ages in the other place first. We found them very nice & helpful and many of the medics speak very good English.

As a matter of I interest I know my husband had to use his EHIC card in Los Arcos once and he had no bother but as Mags said it's probably best to check in first with the clinic and let them refer you if necessary.

Best of luck.

Thanks Ann. I didn't know that non-residents should go somewhere else. I'll keep that information for future reference.
