It's quite a good supermarket but I understand it's Russian owned so I don't use it for that reason. If I'm wrong please let me know

You are wrong, so I had a look.

It is now owned by an investment company based in Luxemburg.

See here for the full info. from Wikipedia.

Thank you Roland. I'm glad I asked now.

I checked out the information you sent me.  Mikhail Friedman & his partner, both Russian, were co-founders of that investment company in Luxembourg but resigned when they were sanctioned & have no part in the company now.

However, I feel this is just a strategic move on their part, possibly temporary until the war is settled.  I remain somewhat sceptical about a manoeuvre I suspect was designed to avert the worst effects for them of the sanctions imposed & won't be supporting Maxi Dia. I'm not convinced they are not benefitting from their association with the investment group.

Thank you for taking the trouble to enlighten me, I'm pleased I now know more about the  origins of this supermarket chain.

Ever since the inflation rates in the UK and Europe were announced, supermarkets see it as an open license to increase prices on a daily basis. Wait until quarterly profits are announced and judge for yourselves!.

Yes, it's the same in Ireland & now I'm finding that I'm spending much the same in both places for my weekly shop. That's crazy when you consider how different the two economies are. Don't know how the Spanish cope on the average wage in Spain.

Yes I realize if you take everything into account, it’s probably cheaper in Spain. I was only commenting on food prices in local supermarkets. I have now realized it’s Aldi lidle or mercadona for main shop.

Now if I could only work out what bus goes where and when I’m laughing.

Ch

During Covid I had no car. I walked to all the local shops, lidl, mercadona, consum and Dia, pulling my shopping trolley. Friday was my lidl shop. I also went to the Monday and Thursday markets for my fresh veg and fruit. I always shop local. If you are able to walk buy a shopping trolley, they are great 😃

Yes I am still able to walk, thanks. I’m going to use market in lo pagan Thursday for my fruit &veg. Lidle and Aldi are both in San Javea, which is a bit of a trek, mercadona is San Pedro I think. Not good for my corns 😀

Not sure where you live in Lo Pagan but there is a Lidl in San Pedro as well. Maybe it's nearer for you than the San Javier one. . It's on the roundabout as you head for Torrevieja, the opposite end of the town heading north. It's still a long trek I'm afraid but maybe there is a convenient bus as it's on the main 332 that goes through San Pedro end to end. (Avenida Dr Arturo Guiro - spelling may be wrong, sorry). Hope this helps. A taxi wouldn't cost a lot for that distance.

Yes I think a bus to San Pedro is pretty doable.

Lidl is on the boat roundabout. Takes me 30mins to walk to it, but I'm a slow walker. Mercadona is closer. I'm also Lo Pagan.
