Driving License change

There is a few messages on here about renewing your driving license to a Spanish one in the Lorca area. You go for your medical first which is a form to fill in and an eye test very quick, for this go to Centro Medico San Cristobal Pasaje 25 it is on Calle Lopez Gisbert and is off the road slightly down a passage way. You then take your results, passport, NIE and picture driving license to an Asesoria there is one near the 24 hour Farmacy in Lorca called Garcia Clemente on Alameda Ramon y Cajal they open at 9am and the Medico opens at 10 am. At the medical test centre, was a straight exchange/swop mentioned, so that you could keep your UK driving licence categories for the time left on your UK licence or just a 10 year renewal offered with or without your category entitlements. I found that I lost all categories entitlements over 3.5 ton and up to 16 seat minibuses on receiving my new Spanish driving licence, none of which was explained to me at my time of exchange/renewal.

Phew not sure about all that and to be honest I’m just about to do mine as last time I only had a green paper license as I lost my other one and they said the paper one was no good. So here I go again.

For you’re up to date UK driving licence details/categories you can go online @ dvla and by entering your UK driver number, also your UK N. I number, with your last registered UK post code, then you will be able to download/print everything you held on your UK driving licence, always handy to have for any future reference, I have read that once the Spanish DGT have applied/accepted your details from the DVLA, these details will be deleted from the DVLA records.
