I regularly transfer funds to our Sabadell bank account using Wise (Transferwise). Other than the usual low Wise currency exchange fee, I have never been charged any additional fees by Sabadell to receive into our account.

Obviously cannot comment on XE.

Many thanks for your reply Bob, fortunately, you are with one of the better banks, which does not charge for receiving a transfer, unlike mine!

Best Regards Andy

Many thanks for your reply, must admit, having received no reply from XE, I did try transferwise and to say impressed, would be an understatement, in that it transferred in 18 seconds and on thinking yea right, checked my Sabedell account and sure enough there it was and having checked again today, no fees have been deducted. So for the present, is definetly the way forward. All the best Andy

Yes - I wouldn't use anyone else - Wise have been perfect for us for that last 2+ years in our house purchase in Spain through to our move out here last year and our day to day finances as we transfer funds from UK to Spain.

Unless things have changed, Sabadell charge a receiving fee over a certain amount. Long time since I did it but I had to send smaller amounts to avoid the charges. Unfortunately Sabadell make up for it with their extortionate fees for holding my money, something I aim to change when I can get out there again!

Hi Andy,

I used to use XE but Sabedell were charging me, xe did refund me the charge when I informed them about it, but was every time, so I've now changed to Wise (transferwise) I've completed many transactions now, no charges.

Sabadell charged us €18 for a £20 Swift transfer (a friend was seeing if the transfer worked before sending a much larger amount) but the fee was a huge shock. Spoke to Sabadell about it and they said they wouldn’t charge if we had an arrangement such as pension or a regular monthly transfer (though they would only accept one regular monthly transfer on top of the pension payment). They said that any other transfers needed to have a form completed beforehand, every time, and to clear it with them first. Since then, we have used Wise and there have been no charges. They blamed Brexit. But this is Spain, so we can’t expect things to go smoothly or be explained to our satisfaction 🙄.

Hi Steve many thanks for your reply-how to take something that should be straight forward and make it complicated use Sabedell. Could you imaging, having to complete a form and then having to wait for their approval before sending a transfer, time consuming & antiquated. Fortunately you have found and use Wise, as have I now and first time I used it transferred in 18 seconds and no charges, so is a no brainer. They say Brexit, I say exploitation, as under SEPA they should not be charging, but then Sabedell at the best of times, leaves a lot to be desired!
