What's autonomous please? I am a resident  with residencia and S1...husband just 61... I work in UK live in Spain and pay tax in both countries.?

autonomo is self-employed - does not sound like you.

You are tax-resident in Spain so should either not be paying tax in the UK and declare it when you do your annual return in Spain, or claim tax paid in UK under the double-taxation agreement.

Autonomos in Spain are self-employed people, typically freelancers or contractors who run unincorporated small businesses.

They may be Spanish born or British, Irish etc. passport holders who have Residencia etc. are working as computer programmers, plumbers, electricians, writers etc.

The Spanish authorities require the two million or so, in the country, to register and pay taxes as well as charge IVA to their Spanish customers.

As they are required to make social security payments, the extranjeros (foreigners) amongst that number and their families have the same health coverage as Spanish citizens.

The relevance in this situation is that the provincial health bodies like MurciaSalud will be vaccinating them as they would Spanish born citizens.

It would seem that those extranjeros who have Residencia but have private Spanish health insurance should be asking their insurers what the vaccination program for them is. It will after all be very much in the insurance companies interests if their clients have 95% less change of getting this oft deadly virus.

I note the suggestion that extranjeros who have Residencia & therefore Padron will be vaccinated. Wondering where they fit in the priority program and who is going to contact them and how?

It will certainly be interesting to hear the answers.

Meanwhile extranjeros living in Spain who are not even Padron registered will need to figure out how they are going to get vaccinated in their home countries.

Again, interesting to hear of experiences.

I am with the "shrug" attitude. If a resident they should be on the padron and in the health system so will be qualified and get the jabs. If not resident why are they here and why should they get vaccination here rather than in their own country of residence?

I completely understand the 'shrug' response.  But there are people like myself & husband.  We have obtained everything, Including S1s, BUT have been waiting months now for our residencias/TIEs.   Our EHIC cards have also expired and despite UK promises that retirees can renew - they refuse!   So we are not covered by Spanish nor UK health services.   And it's definitely through no fault of ours.

We did everything according to the book.  But Covid-19 got in the way of the Spanish authorities doing what is right according to their own rules.

We, like others, shall have to pay privately.

Interesting to know vaccinations will be rolled out. I also understand that Brits with padron and residencia will be on the list. However, what about the Brits with S1 who have the Padron but are waiting for their residencia to go through? They cannot access health care at all, unless they have p...

...rivate insurance, and because of existing health conditions probably can't get it. So, unless they can pay for the vaccination, they have no chance of getting it. Catch 22 probably.

That describes our situation perfectly, Shirley.

Anne 2019, its a very grey area we find ourselves in, as we are neither under the radar or fully fledged residents. The only glimmer of hope I can give, is, I was advised by the British Consulate in Madrid, that once you get a favourable result, that is good enough to register for health access at the Social Security. Please let me know how you get on and likewise I will do the same.

Surely it was Brexit that got in the way, rather than Covid? The Spanish authorities are just following the rules regarding EU citizens and third country citizens. It's not their fault that thousands of Brits suddenly decided that they wanted to get out of the UK before the sh*t hit the fan. We've all had to go through the residency process and sometimes it takes a long time, which is probably why applicants should have private health insurance. Criticising the administration of the country that you are trying to move to, doesn't sound like a very positive start to your new life.

Were still waiting medical cards from over a year ago! So you might need to just hang on there, agree  it's not a great idea to be slaging off the county your trying to get residecia for🤔🤔 this is spain most things are slower.

Thank goodness, Mags, that very, very few people on this site come across as unnecessarily defensive and as offensive as you are with the assumptions implied in your message.

Either way,Mags, wishing you a very happy, safe and peaceful 2021.

Sorry if my comment appeared defensive or offensive to you. I was merely pointing out the fact that if there had been no Brexit, UK citizens legally resident in Spain, would still be EU citizens and would receive exactly the same treatments as Spanish citizens. We may just have to agree to disagree on that one! All my very best wishes for 2021 to you too Anne2019 and let's hope that we'll be released from quarantine very soon.
