Corvera has been a disappointment to many since it's long overdue opening. It's my prediction that it will stay the same or disappear altogether if Alicante get their second runway, which they are pushing hard for. Just look at the traffic numbers into Alicante at the moment.

Corvera needs more carriers, it can't rely on Ryanair......who can!

That’s our worry, we’re at the stage where we’re ready to buy somewhere here in LA but the transfer from Alicante could be a game changer for us.

Just checked Mid May 2020 when we expect to return and Dublin flights(Ryanair) are available for booking......cannot see Corvera closing. Mind you I'd  love if they reopened San Javier.

I can confirm that the summer 2020 Ryanair flight from LBA to Corvera has been withdrawn along with flights to Chania and others. Ryanair have reduced aircraft based at Leeds Bradford from three to two

Unless the management do something quick with Corvera, I'm afraid Alicante will win. It makes no commercial sense to run an airport the way Corvera is run. I know it hasn't been open for a year yet, but the Government has had a very long time to get carriers involved and installed. Without them and a long list of destinations the future doesn't look bright.  I doubt San Javier will ever re-open, it took decades for the Military to oust the commercials!

I would of thought the military was on a nice earner allowing commercial users to share facilities, are you sure it was them that forced the change?

Can't be sure of anything unless you're party to the discussions, but the Military training school has been reported in the press for as long as I can remember, been trying to get the base back for themselves. Now they have achieved that I doubt it will revert to a part time airport. In fact the old airport buildings will now hold the National air museum.

An expanding commercial airport (which it would need to survive) does not mix with an air training establishment or operational air base, as the legal spacing between aircraft is different for each activity. Military ops will always override commercial as it does in this country, and I doubt Mr Ryanair would be happy to have his planes on hold with his tight turn arounds.
