It is not a viable business model to simply fill an aircraft at silly prices, then stop the service claiming they were operating at a loss!

If you add up the additional costs to fly from Alicante, plus the wasted time, the Jet2 price from RMU looks more attractive. Given the problems with Boeing 737s cracking at the wing roots I will be glad not to suffer the Ryanair technique of slamming the plane into the tarmac on landing too!...

...

I would worry more about getting on jet2's 29 year old plane !!

I like Corvera. It is closer for me but clearly more flights are required daily. When that happens then infrastructure like buses will increase and improve

Must admit that I would never use Ryanair even if you paid me based on everything I hear about them. Horror story as far as I can tell.....

San Javier was never intended to be full time commercial airport as it has gone back to the military. Yes San Javier was a lot closer to LA and other resorts, but life goes on, either bite the bullet and pay for taxi's or hire a car and see more of Spain.

I'd like to know how to get a hire car for 8 euro's a week, usually pay 100 euro's.....

...

I doubt it stays at 8€ for the week. You will have to pay the refueling charge on top of that even if you take it back full, which I always do no matter what they said when I pick the car up. I've been ripped off many times for fuel refund, if the tank is full, no argument! The refueling charge does vary company to company, but it still ends up as good value compared to the UK. I always use DoYouSpain and get very low rates in winter, but it's a bit like Ryanair....the final price will rise.

Like many have said on here....be careful who you book with.

I have found car hire for less than 10€ for a week/10 days (I purchase my own excess insurance which was €48 this year, however when I booked Goldcar via DoYouSpain from 18/27th September Goldcar were offering fully comp so no excess charge for an additional €50) but it is always out of sea...

...son so April/May and September and later....the key to cheap car hire is always taking the time to check the car over and if you don't purchase their fully comp insurance then make sure you leave enough time back at the airport to have someone from the company check the car and sign it off.....

Be very careful when they say 'fully comp'! I've found the word 'fully' can be interpreted differently in Spain. Like you I have my own annual insurance, well worth the cost.

That's no age for a plane if it's maintained correctly. I would rather travel Jet2 than any other budget airline and they do have quite a modern fleet.....plus the staff treat passengers with respect....my experience anyway.

Where on Earth do you get your information from? Jet2 evolved from Channel Express which flew mainly for the Royal mail. The older B737-300QC aircraft were used for cargo (1 in the fleet now, QC stands for quick change), however most of their fleet is now made up from B737-800 aircraft of which they have 78...passenger only. Unfortunately these are NG's and are now under scrutiny for wing root cracks. Ryanair fly these as well.....maybe they'll add a charge for the cracks now!

I forgot to mention they also have 11 B757 and lease 5 airbuses.

As for your experience with Goldcar, I think you have been lucky. Whatever the fuel policy states, if you take the car back with a full tank, they cannot argue about the refund. I don't know of any company that doesn't take the refueling fee, and I've hired several cars a year for many year's and discovered good and bad companies.....and I am well aware of the T's and C's!

I don't know what other's think, but I only experience this in Spain. In the US for example, just the simplest complaint will get you an immediate upgrade and an apology. All I've ever had in Spain is 'the manager isn't here'!.....All good fun!

Abbey.....I would love to see a video of this changing around taking place all over the world....do they run on Fairy Dust, with Peter Pan and Captain Hook as flight crew.....whoever told you this tale is either a good wind-up merchant or one of those cojones specialists to be found in every Brit bar....gave me a laugh, anyway.
