The new rule for Spain about tourist Visas is valid for 90 days max and no return until a further 90 days. I am told this an EU rule and applies throughout the EU . Does this mean if I spend 90 days in Spain and return to the U.K. I am then not allowed to travel to any other country in the EU until I have spent at least 90 days in the U.K..

If that is the case that is madness and another fine case of Brexit negotiation by Boris.

Does anyone know different or am I correct.?

You are correct.

You can spend no more than 90 days in the EU, then you must leave the EU (e.g. return to the UK). You cannot return to the EU for 90 days.

If you drive to Spain via France, the 90 days starts ticking at the French port.

The days are in the Schengan area (not sure if spelling) which is most of the EU but not all - fie example Cyprus which is in the EU but not Schwengan so you could do 90 days in Spain and then 90 days in Cyprus

Hi,  can anyone confirm the following please - so can we travel in July 2021 for a 2 week holiday pending COVID19 and if its safe to travel -  AND then we could also travel again to spain in December 2021 for a one/two week stay?   And with each visit we would have to fill out the Schengen Form?    All my family (British) moved out to Spain over 10 years ago and are officially Spanish Residents.

Just trying to get my head around the 180 day Schengen ruling.

Thanks Tracey

Just download an online Schengen calendar and the calculations are easy to work out. https://schengenareacalculator.com/

Hi thanks for the info. Just have some other questions. If I travel to Spain ( or the EU) for 30 days and then go back to the U.K. can I bank the unused 60 days of the Visa. Or do I have to wait Untill the Visa ends ( another 60 days) and then wait a further 90 days before I can travel to the EU.

Or do I start my 90 day wait in the U.K. as soon as I get back.

Also if I have 60 days left on the visa when I get back to the U.K. can I go back to Spain for the remainder of the visa. That is to say, if I get a 90 day visa can I go back and forth to the U.K. as often as I like during the 90 days. Sorry for so many questions but the rule seems to have no detail explanation.

2 weeks in Summer and another 2 weeks at Christmas is no problem (Covid etc. permitting).

There is no "shengen form". Short term visits (up to 90 days) are currently visa-free.

I think there is a plan to introduce an online visa (similar to the ESTA system used for a tourist visa for the USA), for 2022.

The ESTA system just takes 10 minutes or so to complete online. You then receive a confirmation email. You present this at USA immigration if requested.

If you are aiming to be in Spain for 90 days in 180 (or less), there is no visa at present.

There is a plan to introduce an online process for 2022 (similar to the ESTA system used for the USA - but that is very easy to use).

So, in any rolling 90 day period, you can be here for 90 days spanning any number of separate visits.

So, say between Jan 1st and July 1st, you could make 10 visits of 9 days each if you wanted to, or 2 visits of 45 days ....

The only "challenge" is the rolling 90 day period. Mags44 provided (above) this link to a calculator
