hello all,

Just wondering what the general feeling is among expats in living in LA re brexit. Are we to believe all the scaremongering thats going on in the event of a no deal ? We keep hearing that Brits are are selling up and leaving in the thousands is this really true ?Is there this panic happening in LA where there are a large number of expats living . i cant see Spain wanting to be back in the situation of having empty properties and a poor economy again .Surely  things will be ok for Brits there already and for those owning property?I am due to complete the purchase of a property myself in May  so what will it mean for me ? What do you guys living there think of it all ?

                                Cheers ALAN

Hi , I will continue to live in Spain, enjoying the weather and the quieter lifestyle. Would hate to have to live back in UK. Rain, crime, debt, company's  quitting the UK etc etc.

Brexit will not affect us or our UK pensions or our healthcare as retirees in Spain.

I registered with the UK Government website over two years ago just after the Brexit vote and have received comprehensive daily Brexit updates ever since

As a result I listen to the mouthpieces on the English TV including politicians from all parties that are sometimes clueless about what or what has not been agreed in the Brexit talks.

They stand there shouting " we don't know what's happening bla-bla-bla" Obviously they are not registered with the UK gov website, cos this website tells you Everything That Has Been Agreed To-date!

There is even a huge section about moving and living in Spain (and other countries).

I know of a huge search in expats purchasing before Brexit according to local news report. Have not seen or heard of "thousands leaving".

Four couples from the uk have bought on our urbanisation since December 2018.

We bought in October 2018 after spending months chasing after bargain properties that appeared to be selling fast. We lost out on two before buying this one. Grabbed a bargain whilst we could. Prices are rising here and there is a shortage of desirable economy property after having been purchased in the last twelve months or so.

Trust this information allays some fears you may have had.

As there is a general election coming up in April in Spain nobody knows what the future holds for British ex pats, throw in Brexit and with a possible no deal and who knows, but me personally I am not worried what will be will be worrying won't do any good.

So basically you are saying it will be alright on the night!

Well good luck with that, but I suspect many Brits are not as important to Spain or Europe as they think they are.

We may not be that important individually but the money we bring, is!!

The website mentioned above is really informative and is a much less emotive read than any of the news headlines!!

But we can help ourselves as well, by becoming Residents and better understanding the rules here about healthcare if/when the E111 goes, not being a burden on the state etc - I'm 13 years off of a pension!!

No, I have no intention of returning and loosing a life which I have enjoyed for 3 years, I know you can never say never, but Spain can't afford to loose us!

Just my humble view!

No use worrying is what I said, and as for some brits not being important to the Spanish, some brits aren't important to Britain, lets just see what happens hey, but in the mean time help yourselves by getting residencia, changing driving licence etc etc, see you all (hopefully) on the other side of March 29th.

I agree, but E111 (EHIC) doesn't come in to it if you live here permanently

It seems to me that so much is up in the air and with general elections in any country the mood or the ambition can change

Have to agree with the poster about how much Spain would suffer if it lost the revenue from the Brits who live here and how much more that would be impacted if travel was restricted and so the normal package holidays dried up. They would be lost. They know it and we know it which is why there is a degree of optimisim as both England and Spain are looking to help each other

The issues around Gibralter do not help but that seems to me to be more sabre rattling than anything else to be seen to be doing something without really trying..!!

Only time will tell but my underlying feeling has always been little or no change to be expected

There are so many conflicting views that is is clear to me that no one really knows what will happen

My feeling is that Club Europe are trying to look after the cushy number they have enjoyed for years with the Germans and French wanting to dictate to all and sundry in the hope that their little country club will not start, or continue, to break up...?
