We live in Portugal but want to relocate to Spain. Do you have to have residency in Spain before you buy a property.

Hi Trish,
No you don’t need to have residencia to purchase a house, however you should apply for residency if you are there longer than 3 months...

Hi,
We bought our property in Los Alcazares In February 2020. We didn’t need residency , just an NIE number, and of course the money😂.

Thank you, I've heard you need to have around €35,000 euros coming in a year! We both have state pensions and enough money in the bank to live on, is this right?

At the moment, those figures sound about right. I would recommend you speak with a solicitor with regards to applying for residency.

The OP wants to relocate to Spain from Portugal and not just buy a holiday home, so he or she will need to obtain residency in order to be able to live in Spain.

The question is, do I need to be a Spanish resident to buy in Spain.

No of course you don't have to be a resident to buy a property in Spain but if you are not a resident and you are a UK citizen, then your use of it will be limited to 90 days in every 180 on a rolling basis.
