Hi, we are travelling to Spain in July with our two dogs. Our dogs had their first rabies vaccination in May 2022. We are going to be driving via France and need to know if the dogs need a booster to travel through France. Our vet has told us no but I'm sure I read somewhere that dogs need a yearly booster to travel through France. Is anyone able to help please?
Gosh I went through this too and was sooo scared of getting it wrong as the Spanish vet put a different rabies renewal date to the French (dogs have EU passports).
I contacted Brittany Ferries animal expert team via email and they said my dogs will be fine as France allows three years - Spain each year

Thank you very much for your reply. We have been told its three years in Spain and every year in France - it's very confusing.
Our English vet said it's every three years for France and Spain.
We're travelling via the euro tunnel, not keen on ferries as one dog doesn't travel well.

Beware:
Some rabies vacinations in Franche need to be boostered after 1 year and some after 3 years. If your type of vacanition is not amongst this list, then the maximum is 1 year.

Hi, thank you for your reply. Our dogs had the Novibac rabies last year, it doesn't state anything else.

We're travelling via the euro tunnel, not keen on ferries as one dog doesn't travel well.
It is 3 years france and one year spain as I looked in the French passports for dogs and due date is three years from vaccination-,
every year in Spain which is why I panicked as Spanish vet put due date for one year but Brittany ferries assure me that the French date in passport will be accepted as I’m going via france
I have travelled with my dog from uk to spai&back 6 times various routes through France ferris Santander etc . If your doffs rabies shot was given in the uk it is recognised fr 3 years in any EU country. If your dog’s rabies shot expires before returning to the UK & you get it’s booster in Spain then it is only recognised for 1year . Happy travels .

Definitely yearly in spain
It depends whether your pet travels witb a uk certificate or and eu passport. They have different rabies virus . If you have a travel certificate from uk it is 3 years but you need to buy the certificate for every trip. If you have a spanish dog passport it is every year
