Hi all.  It looks like i will have to replace the tv in our apartment which we rent out.  I'm looking at uprating the size to a 40-42" from a 32''.  All new tvs seem to be 'smart' tvs.  We currently have tv & wifi through TeleEast.  If we replace tv with a smart tv will renters be able to access the tv channels as normal?  If anyone can help me out here i would be very grateful.  cheers Ray

Not all new TV's are smart TVs by any means so be careful what you are buying.

If your internet is on all the time your renter's will be able to access all the internet TV stations easily enough.

It's just a matter of pressing the right buttons in the right order

I would print up instructions on how to do it & leave in the property.

Surely to watch UK channels a VPN or DNS will be needed? You will get Amazon Prime if you have a subscription.

You do not need a smart TV. Your current router, if connected to the internet/TV provider of your choice, will provide the same channels which you currently pay for. If you buy a "smart" TV you will get lots of extras (which you may or may not want). So the choice is yours....enjoy.

I would get Alan to help you.  He's great and I have used him many times so can recommend him.

I have a Smart tv but there were only 55 channels and very few were UK. Lee Rumble installed another system with over 700 channels - admittedly many are repeats and in a wide selection of languages but the variety is still good. My apartment visitors seem very happy with it. It required a higher speed so I moved from Teleast, who would have charged 50 euros a month for 12 and I required at least 20. I'm now with Emartinez and paying 35 euros/month for 20.

Hi Roland. Thanks for your reply.

The channels we have with telecast are sufficient.  I was thinking of smart tv as so many people, including myself, now have Prime and Netflix and didn’t know if these could be watched whilst abroad.

Thanks again. Ray

Hi peter. Thanks very much.  As earlier reply I didn’t know about Prime or Netflix.

Thanks for your help. Ra
