Hi I see from a few discussions that if you live in los alcarez a car is essential? I do not drive but my husband does. Are there no public transport links to other towns like San javier, la zenia etc? If that is the case is it the same also in other towns ie San javier too? Many Thanks in advance. Christina

There is a local bus service certainly running from San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera which I’m pretty sure includes LA.....but working it out can be tricky and sometimes you just need to have good patience to wait at the bus stop until it arrives......

I believe it’s the national bus service that runs up to Alicante so you probably can get it as far as La Zenia.....so strictly speaking a car isn’t necessary.....and there’s a good taxi service...

Same everywhere.  There are buses in the towns and between the towns, but time tables are generally not very friendly.

It really depends on how much time you are prepared to spend waiting around

This website has not worked for a while. However, I did walk to San Pedro bus station to ask if the buses schedule had resumed as usual. The people at the bus station café said NO. There's very limited public transportation at this time due to COVID19. I think this is why the website is out of order. Things are about to  change for the better so try accessing the web upcoming week. Globalia and La Immaculada buses are the 2 main companies in the area. I will be attempting the website as well or walk again to the bus station to inform. Taxis aren't too expensive if used every now and then.

Best wishes

Later...
