Hi All,

We have an apartment in LA which we haven't been able to visit since the floods last September.

We have re-booked the flight twice already but while we feel it is an essential journey to visit our property we both work and are very afraid that the Spanish government will declare a lockdown during the 10 days we are due to stay.

Is there any advice you can give us in advance of the journey as to what is likely to happen if there is another lockdown? Could we still get flights out if there was? And is it likely that another lockdown is imminent?

I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Kind regards

Catherine

no lockdown imminent here...and of course you would be allowed to fly home to your main residence!

The government said yesterday that they will not return to a lockdown as it can now be managed by areas. There are very few cases in Los Alcázares in comparison to the rest of Spain, or even Murcia. My guess is you'll be fine this end.

I'm in the same situation. Being stranded in Spain is not an issue for me. The major problem is that travel insurance doesn't cover for Spain because it's not recommended by the FO unless the visit is essential. I called them about this and concern that my apartment has been unoccupied for so long was not considered essential so I'm not going to risk it.

Some policies do give cover but may not give Covid cover, What age are you?

I am with Saga and it covers Covid but that is not the problem. Spain is still on the FO restricted list, as follows:

'The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advise against all non-essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks in the country.'

This seems unfair because the area has had a relatively low number of cases in the past, compared to the rest of Spain. However, I believe they have risen recently. In fairness, Covid protections are brilliant in LA; better than anything I've experienced in the UK!

I recommend you check with your insurance company or just risk it, bearing in mind that the deteriorating situation here could result in Spain preventing all UK visitors.
