Hi we have rented from Goldcar every time and we have been pleased with them.  The only problem with the car rental is that it doesn’t include fully comprehensive insurance and they always quote high rates for this.  We buy a No Excess policy in the U.K. either for a single trip or an annual policy (depending on how often you plan to travel).  This costs a fraction of the price of additional insurance from the rental companies.  I get it through Moneysupermarket.com

Hope this helps.

We rented a couple of weeks ago and they tried to sell the additional insurance for 90 euros. I paid less than 20 for the same thing.  We are in the process of buying a holiday home and plan to go out regularly so we will take out annual cover which will work out even cheaper.

Hi

Please can you tell me more about the No Excess annual policy that you mention?  What do I search for on Money Supermarket?  Is it specifically for driving rental cars?

I have just bought a holiday home and will be going over for 6 weeks, 3 or 4 times a year - and car hire is looking very expensive!!!

thanks

The company we use is called Reducemyexcess.   It costs less than £30 for the year although I think you can only stay for 31-45 days per trip but unlimited trips. If you need any more help let me know. Are you flying in to Murcia or Alicante?  There is more choice and competition at Alicante but we fly in to Murcia.  If you go to Alicante I can suggest a site to search for better prices but you are right, car hire is expensive.

If you're going for longer periods try splitting your rental. It often works out quite a lot cheaper and works better with the    excess ins' as it covers you per hire not the total time you're away.

If you use doyouspain use the free cancellation option and keep checking after you've made a booking as prices may come down considerably. I've reduced €200 to €50 by doing this.
