Hi looking for any advice please - Easyjet moved our 24th November flight to 25th November ( no flights available at all on Wed 24th from Glasgow now) this happened a few days ago and Do You Spain- who until now we have had no problems with over the years, are refusing to allow us to pick our hire car up 1 day late at Alicante airport. We only booked the car a few days before Easyjet cancelled ! We have called, tried to email, tried to raise a formal complaint but with no success. Clearly this is "red tape" for the sake of it as if our flight had not been cancelled then we would already have the car by the next day !

Do You Spain are just not interested in trying to help us, when we asked to speak to a manager the girl cut us off - not helpful !

We have included cancellation in the past but given our next trip out was only 7 weeks away we didn't include it this time.

So it seems we will loose our £220 and then have to hire another car for the next day until we head back in mid December.

Easyjet say not their problem. Travel insurance while sympathetic say they do not cover.

Has anyone had the same experience and found a solution ?

Many thanks

Joyce

You might be able to get to Alicante by going from Glasgow to Birmingham to Alicante. Starting from 07.00 Glasgow to Birmingham with easy jet  and then 09.20 from Birmingham to Alicante landing at 12.55. Quick turnaround in Birmingham so wouldn’t work if you have hold luggage and also depends what time you have car hire booked from. £75.00 each without baggage but you should be able to get refund off original easyJet flight unless you have already accepted the change.

I use doyouspain most of the time and had no problems with them but they are in effect brokers and it may be the car hire company that won’t allow you to change. I always use the free cancellation option and have quite often found the cheapest price a week before flying so just rebook and cancel the original booking getting a full refund.

Chartered flights often have a strange policy where if you don’t go out on the outward journey you can’t come back on the return. My sister had  return flights with BA from UK to Italy but she got there via Spain not using the outward flight and they wouldn’t let her onto the return flight.

All very well posting complaints on various web sites but that does not solve your problem.

The car hire company are the ones responsible for your collection of the vehicle so persevere with phoning them and  email them telling them you will collect the car that you booked but one day later and just bare the cost of an extra day.

Rememember this is not do you in Spains fault so why complain about them

Thanks and we will keep trying but no response so far.

Do You Spain were not at all helpful ( refusing to contact car hire company/ cut us off when I was very politely asking to speak to a manager/ raise a complaint.

I've used DYS for donkeys years and if I had to change a booking I simply cancelled FOC and rebooked. as someone has said, the price can surprisingly go down. In any event, you wouldn't lose all your money. Complaining on facebook might make you feel better, but do you really think companies take any notice?
