After the 31st of March the police are well aware that any British-registered car will either belong to someone going through registration for residency, or illegal (if it is a resident).

This gives them much a easier way to know what paperwork the driver should carry, and impound the vehicles of the dodgers, some of whom have been living in Spain below the radar for years.

Spain is closed to non-residents at the moment, so nobody should be driving here from the UK.

I know that!!! Was he only referring to this week, this month, or moving forward to the post covid future?? I for one may be driving down - I think lockdown is making a lot of people very snappy and not using their full faculties sadly.

It always has been law both in the UK and Spain that no one should drive their car without carrying details of insurance, MOT and driving license and road safety equipment. Any legal driver has a right to drive anywhere ww but Spanish residents who are uk citizens need to change their paperwork of registration of vehicle and license to Spanish. That is where if a resident does not change their paperwork then they will lose their vehicle, or fined. Many UK citizens who are Spanish residents are still driving UK cars. It will cost the locale police lots of money to keep stopping and checking cars so a fine is the only way to pay the revenue. So you are right , people have to have their paperwork in order. And holiday makers it does not effect, only usual EU insurance cover. Yeah 😌 everyone's right

Just remembered a friend of mine took his car to be mended at local mechanics. His vehicle is still UK registered. And RHD.

Does that mean locale mechanics can no longer do MOTs on a car that is UK registered.

Looks like big knock on effect, again

"Local mechanics doing Mot,s on UK reg vehicles"  My God, this should never have been happening anyway. Its illegal for a Spanish garage to do that. I suppose anything can be bought at a cost. Better to drive it back get mot and return. It will be interesting to see how my neighbour a resident for 16 yrs but has driven his UK reg car all that time by returning to UK every 6mnths. How he gets away with the guardia every time he gets stopped is a miracle.

Pauline

Would like to know if Peter has taken into consideration the new rules where Spain is lifting the ban and allowing visitors from the UK and with Boris's new rules which allow people who wish to view, rent, buy properties, etc. - to travel. So it looks like anyone under those rules can drive down after the 30th March!!
