Corvera

my wife travels to uk every month and corvera is so simple as was san Javier

but it could be blamed on covid but there are 3 return flights before March then some form of normality returns

How is this airport going to survive with no planes landing or taking off ? Who is to blame easyJet, Ryanair, jet two, none are flying there yet we know lots of people south of Alicante who would prefer corvera to the hours drive to Alicante but without the support of airlines it will wither away and Alicante will take the flights

No idea how Corvera is going to survive.

Ryanair are also cutting their flights into Alicante in January & February & discounting like mad to keep some people on the planes.

£5 to Alicante from Leeds Bradford at the moment & still nobody is buying the seats !!

I have just had a flight in late January cancelled.

Ryanair for one must think things are going to improve though as they have just signed up for another 75 new aircraft.

210 new aircraft on order now.

I think Ryanair were just about getting by and were offering a fantastic service in the current climate.  But the mandatory PCR tests have just tipped things over. Its sad and I genuinely hope things recover, especially for Ryanair who've provided flights all the way through - i can't fault them!

Agree with Barbara50 the PCR test effectively stopped most people flying to Spain.

The new requirements of an antibody test are not going to help the situation in the least.

Nobody seems to know where, when, how or at what cost this test can be done.

Worldwide air travel is still 90% down on pre-Covid (ironically, apart from in China where domestic flights have almost returned to normal).

Airlines have clearly had to focus on being as efficient as possible and are trying to maintain routes where they can maximise the occupancy in their planes. As Alicante serves high population and high visitor areas such as Benidorm and Torrevieja, in addtion to being within about 90 minutes of most of the rest of Murcia, it makes more economic sense for them to try to fill these flights instead of running low-occupancy flights to Corvera.

Although the low cost airlines (with the honourable exception of Jet2) have been slow to provide refunds etc in what has been a devastating time for the industry, at least they have kept operating, albeit with a reduced service, and kept their prices down at accessible levels. The alternative would be to fly nearly empty planes, but charge considerably more for the seats.

In my opinion, the biggest concern at the moment is whether, due to Covid, the EU moves to ban UK citizens travelling to the EU (as it does for almost every other country in the world, with just a few exceptions) and, if so, will Spain then create an independent air-bridge with the UK (probably supported by PCR tests).

With my wife having to travel at least once a month an additional £170 for a PCR test puts the price of a 50£ ticket to over 200£ crazy

Unless covid is beaten soon I can see many airports including corvera being mothballed at least opening and closing must be costly and a waste of staff but at present even Alicante are borderline to making any money if Alicante can not do it then regional airports will close and will they ever reopen or will their equipment be usable

Just my personal view, I live in the UK but have a home in the Alicante area. I think we should ban all air travel, sea travel and train travel from every country no going anywhere. We need to knock this virus on its head. I can't wait to get back to the sun, however .......

Agreed ....but part of the reason " no one is buying flights is due to the fact there unable to quarantine on arrival to UK?" My husband coulcbhsve got z similar flight to Manchester 19th Dec £5.00...returning 2nd January £5.. but is unable to visit /quarantine.

I too would love to fly from Corvera rather than Alicante as I too travel to / from UK every 6weeks...work related.... it's a pain in the butt.
