Hi, please could I ask where is the best place to go to buy cacti plants and nice outside pots? Also any other plants that you would recommend that dont need much watering when we're not here?

Thank you

We found ALA 30 Garden Center - If your drive from Dos Mares Shopping Centre to San Javier you find it on your right - or coming up from "Iceland" direction Dos Mares on your left. Was very impressive.

I was searching for a specific plant and the chap was very helpful in my broken spanish (have the basics by Duolingo and since 2 weeks private lessons) answered in english!!!

Hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs Suzy, but a plant in a pot will lose water much faster through evaporation than the plant in the ground!     Maybe something to consider if you spend long periods away?                                  Plenty of gravel around the plant will also help retain moisture in the soil for long spells.               If pots are a must, I'd go for terracotta with the base carefully cut off and part buried into the ground with your cacti roots deep down, you know, the old broken pot look??

I do believe gardening tips are for sharing, have fun.

Another good garden centre, I found to be a little cheaper than the one mentioned, is found on the road from Los Alcazares toward Torre Pacheco, the F30. It is past Mar Menor Golf on the left, just before Torre Pacheco.

Aloe Vera is brilliant to leave for long periods. As long as you give it a really good water when you get back, it tends to go pink when needs watering , but soon turns green again .

We have quite a few large cactus, which we leave for 4/6 weeks, in pots, with gravel on top as suggested. We also have a small bed, about 6 inches wide. I use cones on top of the soil to trap water , plus spots cats!!!

Enjoy
