Hi there

I am still very new to the area and going through all the "firsts".  Yesterday was my first cockroach in the villa - it was huge!!!  OK, I know its a hot humid climate and I should expect them..................but I cant abide them!!!  give me spiders and mice any day, but not anything that resembles a beetle!  eeek!!!

What do people do?  Do you have your houses sprayed professionally every year, or do you just buy stuff from the supermarket? If so what is best?  My preference is something to stop them coming in (if that is possible), rather than a spray to kill them once they are in.

I did eventually evict him, but you would have thought I was dealing with a cobra or a scorpion, and I really thought I was going to pass out or throw up!!!!!  Not very brave!!

Buy Oro from supermarkets. It’s a big spray can. Spray it around doors & windows & anywhere else they can get in. It lasts for ages as long as you don’t mop. Keep plugs in sinks & baths & spray into drains & overflows.

Mercadona sell traps with a poison that also attracts the critters. You just tuck them in a dark corner, discrete and also where they like to hide. Last 3 months.

Yes not very nice and you will get them in the house,we are in Sucina in a property about 10 years old and we get one or two every day one thing donot put your foot on one as if it is a female and as eggs 6 of them comes times (6) = 36 oh yes so spray to kill. A little story we had a rental in Benijofar and it had a tile ceiling with lights in as well and in one summer of 6 weeks we had 120 plus hand on heart 120 plus in 6 weeks so we moved out ASAP and moved to Sucina.

IF you have none you are very very lucky.

120?????? I think that would have me on the next easyJet flight out of here!!!!

Thanks for the tip about not stepping on them.  Would never have thought of that.....not that I could bring myself to put my foot on one (even with hob nailed boots on) but I may have considered giving it a severe wack with something from a distance

I have sprayed everywhere with Oro, so fingers crossed. Had one in the pool today but that was easily despatched as it was no longer moving.

I have found approx 10 since I came back 6 days ago. I'm decorating and moving furniture around. Luckily they were all downstairs. Probably won't sleep if I find any upstairs. Neighbours said to keep plugs in all the time. I never thought of doing this. I really hate cockcroches more than any other insects. The ones here are massive too. I have a spray but I've battered a few with a broom!

I wonder if Noah purposely put cockroaches on board or if they were stowaways? If he did I would like a word with him!!!!!!

I have to own up to putting down the bait traps and haven't seen any for a week or so. Also a neighbour told me to mop regularly with an ammonia detergent. I think that's helped too. But by far my favourite trick is to use the small vacuum cleaner with long tube attachment and chase them across the room. 100% success rate and very satisfying! Well they do like to live in dark places?
