Hello all, we'll be coming back down for New Year and I guess it's likely to be a bit nippy first thing in the mornings.  With this in mind, I'm going to buy a new portable gas heater to take the early chill off the house every day before the Boss awakens.  I've seen a good selection at AKI Bricolage and it looks like the regulator and pipe are bought separately.  I'm getting the feeling that (much like the UK) I'll be paying a deposit or a one off contract for the first bottles that I buy (I'll be keeping a spare in).  Can this be easily sorted at a CEPSA fuel station or should I furtively hang around on street corners waiting to flag down a random gas delivery bloke?

Just wondering if any forum members have successfully done the deal at CEPSA (or Repsol).

Thanks for taking the time to read this.  Cheers, Keith

Hi Keith

You could always hang around a street corner and wait for the gas man.

But you are better off getting a contract with a gas company either CEPSA or  REPSOL this will the make you legal to have gas bottles in your property, then  if any thing unto wear should happen, accidents can happen, with a contract your insurance company cannot refuse to pay out.

I use CEPSA in La Ribera and REPSOL in Murcia I find Repsol to be cheaper and delivery more reliable however that is personal choice.

By the way weather has changed today and it certainly is a lot colder.

Kind regards

ED

Thanks for the info, Ed.  I intend swapping the empty out by heading to a fuel station as and when required, once I have my own 'owned' bottles.

Are the two places you refer to (above) filling stations or distribution depots?  I ask because I need to prepare to hold other customers up whilst trying to ask for 2 bottles without having exchanges to weigh in for the first visit!  My schoolboy Spanish and Google Translate will take a hammering before I do the deal!

Cheers, Keith

Thanks for that Peter, is it a case of making a phone call to get replacements delivered or do they do regular rounds?  Interestingly, the CEPSA website has the statement below to promote their 'new' stainless steel 12.5's design with valve guards....... I need to run this one past my tame Spanish lawyer, I think!  Once again, thanks for the response.  Keith

Transportation

  • Since they are fitted with a valve guard, legislation permits transportation of CEPSA bottles in private vehicles.

Hi again Keith

Under Spainish law you can transport 2 gas bottles in your car providing they are in an upright position.

Regards

Ed

If it is illegal to carry gas bottles in your car most of Fuente Álamo residents including half the police force are headed to the lock up

When we first moved to Spain we rented a house. A Repsol representative turned up and told me I needed a contract for gas bottles. He had all the correct paperwork and was driving a Repsol van. He gave me a Repsol contract for which he charged me €100. Since then I have moved several times but not bothered to update the contract. So far I have never found anybody else who has ever had a contract.

If you want bottles just go to any stockist and they will sell them to you. I recently bought another couple from Repsol.

How do camoervans and caravans get by if it is illegal to transport gas bottles in a vehicle? This us the most ridiculous statement I have ever read.

Agreed, just ignore it. Every time I go to get gas bottles there is a queue of cars loading up. If it was illegal there would not be so many places where you can drive in and buy gas.
