Hi Jimeil thanks for your reply and thanks to Richard (above) too.  Really useful info.  I hope anyone else who reads this post finds the following information helpful too.
Due to the strike at the Embassy we had real difficulty obtaining an appointment for interview, however ...

...we have one now for 27th May.  TheConsulate are currently only interviewing between 8.30 and 11.00 on Friday mornings for NLVs so appointments are snapped up very quickly once they’ve been released.  It appears they only release them four weeks ahead, so we were a bit stuck!  All appointments had been taken for the available dates in May when we checked on Monday (which was 2nd May) other than 27th (still showing blue on the calendar but the date wouldn’t open) this because these had not been released yet. So we just kept trying every day until they were.  The appointments for 27th were released at midnight BST (0.00hrs) on Wed 4th and luckily we were able to get one each because we were still up at that time on Tuesday night - we got ourselves booked in at four minutes past midnight!   We had our confirmation e-Mail back almost immediately so it’s obviously an automated electronic system.  When we checked later on that morning (late morning yesterday Wed 4th May)  they had all been taken.  So if anyone is trying for an appointment it’s a good idea to be aware of this and to keep an eye on the calendar to ensure you get your appointment.  I’m assuming they will not be interviewing the following Friday because it’s the Queens Platinum Jubilee BH in UK on Friday 3rd June,  so I am also assuming the next available appointments for anyone who’s looking will be for Friday 10th June, however their calendar will not scroll that far ahead.  My advice would be if you want an appointment keep checking daily to see how far the calendar will allow you to scroll forward.  I think appts will be released very early morning Wed 11th May for any appts on 3rd June (if the UK BH doesn’t affect the Spanish Consulate) and for appts on 10th June check in the early hours of the morning of Wed 18th May etc.  Hope this helps as I know how stressful it can be living the life of ifs and buts!!  Good luck!

How long did it take to get your police clearance? and how long was it valid for?

Hi Sully

So long as you don’t have a police record it’s pretty quick!  I think it took about nine working days, they e-mail you to tell you when they have received them and give you an estimated return time.  Both times for us they were quicker than quoted.  The same with the apostille.  Suggest you use recorded/tracked postage.  The certificates are valid for six months in the UK but BEWARE(!) the Spanish government only consider them valid for three months so take that into consideration when planning your time line for your visa applications.

All the best  - Sara

Hi Mandy

Your ACRO certificate must be in date and have been apostilled by the F&CO the day you go for interview (please see my earlier reply on the forum about getting your appt once you’ve been issued with your password, because of the strike at the moment they are only giving out appointments for...

... interview on Friday mornings, we had to wait four weeks for ours which is now next Friday 27th May).  The ACRO certificate is actually valid for six months in UK but beware, the Spanish Government only recognise it for three months so you need to obtain it, apostille it, and get it translated all within three months of your appointment. Hope this makes sense.  You may have read my above comments to James, our lawyers made a boo boo and the translations were held up so we had to do the whole process twice!

Good luck - Sara

Sara thank you sooo much for the info!

Just confirming (I might sound thick!!) on your first line did you mean ACRO certificate must be in date and apostilled by foreign office office by the date you go for interview/

Hi

Yes that’s correct, so basically you need to ensure when you front up for your interview at consulate (which may be another three or four weeks after you’ve submitted your application and been given your password) that the date of issue on your ACRO certificate is not more than three months earlier.  For instance we go for our interview on Friday 27th May so our fully apostilled ACRO certificates must not be dated before 27th February.  If they are they won’t be accepted.

Hope that makes sense - Sara

PS - Believe me you do not sound thick!  Getting my head round all of this has been like ploughing backwards through a jungle!! 😆. Certainly if you get this far you’re definitely committed to going!!

I'm sure our doctor used a biro and we didn't have a problem.

The legal description of a 'wet signature' is usually that it is the original copy, not a photocopy and not signed electronically (e.g. by Docusign).

We had our Medical Certificates returned by our Spanish Lawyers representing us after they had been apostilled because they were signed in biro not ink.  Our lawyers informed us the Spanish Consulate in London would not accept them if they were signed in biro so we had to have them re-done.  We went to the consulate on Friday for our interview and they did check the signatures and the translations.  So personally I wouldn’t risk it but it’s up to you.

Thanks for that. How long ago did you make your appointment and how far in advance can you book appointment for? We haven't got police check yet so can't log in so can't see options. Is there a spot to change appointment time if you have to ie if docs not back in time. We have to get some from Australia as well as UK and worried as time sensitive.
