Could someone please suggest a website where I might find any bi-laws concerning local restrictions for fireplace use.

Also, if you can recommend double-glazing, open fire or both as wise for the Calida winter for average sized 3-bed villa.

Is there a simple chart to explain the local home energy ratings?

Any news about the future of the local airport (the functioning one)?

Not required re bylaws there are none

Best thing to keep you warm is a log fire all enclosed ciost very little from around 150.00 from a good ferrateria one on the road from Dos Maris to san Pedro about 200 yds big place loads of different fires

Thank you for your warm wisdom, dmoss. I will googelize it and consider it as a good idea, as many of the wonderful houses I see for sale could be easily improved against the chillies.

Cold is rarely a problem here but the houses are made like sponges and so damp is your worst enemy so you def need some form of efficient heating especially Jan Feb the rest of the time a small radiator will suffice I have been going to buy a log fire ever since I moved here some 12 years ago. Perhaps this year?

Excuse the ignorance but do you mean a proper log fire (I.e Ina a traditional fireplace with chimney etc ) or a log burner ??

Hi,

We have a log fire most evenings January and February. Still an open one but we are going to price fitting an inset stove for this coming winter - only because the it should throw more heat out to the room instead of up the chimney. A number of friends have one and they are very efficient - even with the stairs being open from the living room.

We live in the slightly colder area of inland Malaga, but after six years of lugging logs in, checking for lack of creepy-crawlies from the wood pile, lighting it and getting gusts of smoke when the door is opened to add fresh logs, then having to clean out the ash receptacle and clean the glass door.....we installed inverted aircon cool/heat units. These costs far less to run than the logs did, and not only do you get heat within minutes if you are out you can set it to come on before your expected arrival home so you can walk into a cosy home.

The bonus is that in a sweltering summer a log fire does nothing to cool you down, whereas....

We have not had to repaint the lounge walls every two years either.

Ah yes , but we like our real fire more. We have the inverted heater/air con and use sometimes too, usually in the bedrooms before going to bed and, of course, for the air con in summer. We have an ash vac in our home in Ireland - husband likes his toys and this one is useful! May buy him one for Spain.
