In July/August it routinely reaches mid 30s.

Occasionally 40.

It is humid on the Mar Menor.

Murcia City is hot more often.

If you want to come to the Med coast of Spain, you will have to accept that the summer temperatures are far higher than in sunny England!

Here, this year, we have had an exceptionally hot and dry summer (so far!). Generally the mercury has not exceeded 35C on the coast and the norm is 28C to 32C. There is also a gentle breeze from the sea (lagoon). Last year the summer was nowhere near as hot as this. Providing you have shade and good ventilation you will find the summers here tolerable (suppose you need to define "your tolerable"!

Yes the summers here are hot, but really the intense heat only lasts 6-7 weeks in late July and August. When it's too hot we do what we do in the UK when it's very cold-stay indoors, but rather than put the heating on we have the air conditioning.

The flip side of the Murcia climate is that winters are far better than Barcelona with no frost and daytime temperatures of 17c to 20c. In Barcelona the winters aren't much better than the south coast of England with frequent rain and occasional frost and snow.

We live about 15 mins from the coast, think back to geography the sea keeps coastal areas cool in summer warm in winter. Inland where we live it is the other way hit summers colder winters. Summer starts mid June when temperatures start climbing through the 30s by July into August you get temperatures into the low 40s. Mid September temperatures start falling into mid 30s although last week we had days of 40 and 42 degrees. Throughout the other months temperatures settle into the 20s nit often going below 20, except nighttime’s when it gets cold, even down to zero and frost on cars, which amazes a lot of people. Back to geography, even deserts get frost and snow! When it is very hot we tend to stay indoors, the rest of the time we take advantage of shade. Although we have a pool in hot weather it does nothing to cool and refresh, it is about the temperature of a bath. People have told me tubs are better I don’t know not having one.

Yes, good point about being close to the sea, which moderates the climate compared to just 10 miles in land. I live half a mile from the Mar Menor coast and have never recorded a temperature above 39c or below 2c so never had a frost in the 3 years been here, apparently it snowed once in January 2017 although the temperature never fell below freezing.

Hotter than usual this year, 39deg in shade on some days, cooler on the Mar Menor coast and was comfortable sat on the beach.

Certain areas are iprone to flooding so do your homework on that one.

The lagoon isn’t in great shape at the moment due to nitrates etc going into the water.

many thanks for your replies, very informative indeed, that was really my last hurdle, whether or not I would be able for the heat. But obviously you guys have been living there for a long time, so it can't be all that bad, other than that, Los Alcazars look like a hidden jewel, so glad I found it. looking forward to moving down there next year.

Be careful if you’re buying/renting in LA it suffered very badly in the last gotta fria of 2019.  I’m sure it won’t be the last time.  

Just to put into perspective the 2019 Gota Fria was recognised as a 1 in 100 year event.

Still check any property for flooding history and generally the North of the town around Los Najoros suffered much less than the old town.

For real safety buy on the El Carmoli Hill 4 miles south of Los Alcazares, we just watched the rain water rush down the road to the sea.
