I agree, most cyclists are considerate,  but I understand that there are lots of holidaymakers  here at the moment. Maybe the council  could halt the ban from October through to May. Or allow cycling early in the morning maybe before 9am

Its a serious over-reaction, The idea that you shall not ride on the Promenade in October to May is plainly ludicrous.

But on Friday, Saturday, Sunday mid July to Mid September between 2pm and 10pm, I will not ride on the Promenade but outside that time pedestrians and cyclists are fine together.

My own personal opinion is it's a good move by the council, cyclists are a nuisance, they have NO consideration for anybody else, the council or whoever makes the laws in Spain should ban cyclists from riding 2/3 even 4 abreast, other road users have to give them 1.5 metres when passing but whilst at traffic lights they manage to squeeze alongside cars with only a 6" gap, no, here here LA council

I agree Stevie.

As a regular pre 09.00am  walker with my semi disabled Wife and our little dog I always walk on the outside to " protect them" whilst walking on the promenade.

I have been hit/brushed by many cyclists in the last few years.

There is no discrimination as regards to semi professional cyclists or not.          Old women, old men, young men that travel in herds at incredible speeds well beyond the 12km speed limit, refusing to make allowances for any pedestrian, thinking they have the right of way.

Sqeezing past people, dodging and weaving in and out.

Any walker knows how bad it can be.

I am now prepared.

Anyone of these ""cyclists" hit me, my dog or my Wife will be disabled before I use the AlertCops app to call the Guardia Civil.

I have been told that the original no cycling signs of past bygones years disappeared one by one over a period of time, but I have no personal knowledge of such offences.

Anyway down their again tomorrow, I will see what happens.

AlertCop app ready to video any offenders to me or my family.

Well done Council 👍🏻

Hi Tizzyelle,

Of course I will.

AlertCops is an app available from Playstore for android phones.

Its a communication app designed  by the Guardia Civil for English ex-pats as they know how difficult it can be to deal with the Guardia in an emergency due to language problems.

The app is easy to use,  you download, register your name and email address, turn on location .

The screen will have Call button & a Chat button ( they know you are English as you contact them).

There are many features and information available within the app but more importantly preset buttons for Theft Robbery, Assault, vandalism, aggression, fighting, sexual assault, gender violence, bullying, radicalisms, lost, missing etc.

You press the button and they will know why you are calling. With location on your phone they will know where you are and your phone number and even your name.

With Chat you can inquire about anything, advice etc.

The app has been a great success and every law abiding ex- pat should join the network.

Guardia Civil offices have this app promoted on their Public Noticeboards

Imagine the scenerio late one night and some drunk corners you, or similar incident. Someone is threatening you, or you are involved in an accident or witness something, a crime.

You can record the incident on the phone, contact the Guardia with the appropriate complaint button and get immediate help.

To the antagonist you would be saying "err I am just calling the Guardia for assistance, they know exactly where I am and they have the picture/ video I have just taken".

Works wonders!

Hope this info helps, regards Al

Not all cyclists are a nuisance. Some of us actually go out of our way for pedestrians. However, I see too many pedestrians walk in 3s, walk their dog and play in cycle lanes so we have to cycle in the middle of the road to get past them. Pedestrians look at you as if to say"what the hell are you doing cycling on a cycle path" We need eyes in the back of our head at times. There's also a lot of very bad drivers on the roads in spain. They come up real close to cyclists. Dangerously close and they rarely indicate. I'm a driver so I know the rules of the road. I know not all cyclists are well behaved, but don't tar us all with the same brush.
