Legally a farmacia may not dispense antibiotics without a prescription. As indiscriminant use of antibiotics is making them less effective for everyone this seems very sensible. Why not go to your doctor and get a medical opinion and possibly a prescription?

Of course you can get antibiotics from a farmacia but if your son has earache, how do you know that he has an infection and needs antibiotics? It could be a number of things including just a build-up of wax. Farmacias are not supposed to hand out antibiotics without a prescription, for the reason that Peter C has mentioned above. I would suggest that you go to the farmacia and ask what he/she recommends.

There was a welcome change in the law some four or so years ago, so that now oral antibiotics require a prescription.
