Hi, having had a holiday home for 3 years we have now gained Residency under the Withdrawal Agreement and will be living permanently in Spain, however, we will be retaining our UK home as our daughter lives there. How does this impact our house insurance policy? Will the fact that we are Resident in Spain make a difference? Anyone had experience of a similar situation? Any advice welcome. Thanks

You need a conversation with your broker.

From my experience ... 2 options

(a) insure your home using a landlord's policy

My wife and I owned a rental property (a bungalow). My aged parents moved into it. They were not paying us any rent. I explained this to our insurance company, and the policy notes on our landlord's insurance policy were amended to that effect.

When we gained Spanish Residency, we changed the landlord's insurance policy to a non-resident landlords' policy.

This option may be tricky if your UK home is mortgaged.

(b) Most normal UK home insurance policies limit periods of absence to 30 or 60 days. Check with your insurer if your daughter's presence in the home meets this requirement (as, presumably, she is not the policy holder).

Can your daughter insure the house and contents in her name.
