I went over to Murcia 2 or 3 years ago with my wife staying in Santiago De La Ribera while searching the area looking for a property to buy and settle over there. We looked at the Sierra Golf resort - too remote as we wouldn't be driving on arrival, Balsicas - didn't fancy either the properties or the town although the rail links looked interesting, Sucina - loved the place, loved the people, loved the house we viewed, unfortunately it got sold the next day.

When we got back my wife decided she couldn't make the move permanently so it got put on the back burner.

I'm now on my own and after a couple of weeks research have decided that Los Alcazares is the place for me. I'm hoping to go over within 3 or 4 weeks with a view to a long term rental, 1 or 2 bedroom.

Now in my early 60's so a bit of warmth is desired to ease the old bones.

Maybe I'll meet some of you in the near future. Take care. A.

I forgot to mention that we also house searched around Villamartin, La Zenia, Playa Flamenca area. while they are nice areas I felt they were perhaps a bit too built up for us. There just seems a bit more breathing space around L.A. which should suit me better.

That sounds great.  I have been travelling to LA for 20 years as friends live between there and .uk and love it.  I too wanted to be near the coast and not built up or felt isolated.  We are looking in Santiago de la ribera andcr viewing in April.  Hopeful we will find something and be living in Spain by the end of the year.  All exciting but a little scary.

Hope all goes ok for you to

Wishing you all the very best and hoping you find your ideal location.  Santiago de la Ribera/Lo Pagan/San Pedro seems lovely; buses up to Torrevieja and onward to Alicante and to Cartagena (if you don't wish to drive).   Also close to the Airport.  If you play golf the courses are close by and the beach and restaurants too.

Thanks Margaret.

While continuing to search the area and plan my trip over there I came across a place called Gran Alacant which seems to meet what I'm looking for so will probably pay that town a visit too.

Not being a driver limits where I would be comfortable living in and the proximity to the airport from G.A. is a definite bonus.

At present I have a list of maybe 15 properties along the Costa Colida I'll be investigating once travel arrangements are completed.

Hello and Good Morning

Nice to get your response.  Thank you.

I see you don't drive and this was a problem for us.  My husband does; it does restrict you but our idea was never to live in the hills/mountains.

We contacted a Spanish/English Agent in Torrevieja; told them our budget and criteria and that is how it all worked out for us.  Have bought a new build Villa in Lo Pagan, waiting on Completion which may now be mid May, as it's running a month behind schedule.  So happy; within 8 minutes of the beach.  Although we shall have our own swimming pool and Solarium.  Obviously a short taxi ride to San Javier Airport until we bring over our car.  Finally putting down roots and beginning to feel relaxed and looking forward to a life less fraught than UK.

I'm more than happy to give you details of Agent.  They were fantastic and as soon as reservation monies put down we were given paperwork and immediately taken to Notaire, Solicitor and to Bank to open an Account.  Solicitor has POA and she has now got our NIE and she will set up standing orders/direct debits for utilities etc.  Solicitor great too.  Bank as well fantastic.

Yes, whatever you do as you can't drive just research where transport and hospitals, doctors, dentist close by.  That would be my advise although you don't have to take it.  I'm so independent and although we would have had many more €'s in the bank should we have purchased inland it would have been a slow strangulation (perish the thought if you will).

Must go now; Saturday morning and it's catch up time.

Look forward to hearing from you, if you wish.

Regards

Marg

Thanks for the offer Annette but when I move over I'll be looking for a rental of at least 11 months or a year, renewable.

There's no point in shifting my possessions after just a few months. Especially when having to rely on somebody else to drive it.

Once again though, thank you sincerely.

Hi A

It's funny that I am in the same position in that I spent quite a bit of time researching the area only for my (then) wife to decide it wasn't for her and we then split.

Looking at L.A the only thing that is still playing on my mind is the noise of traffic on the AP7 as opposed to somewhere like Sucina.

I am thinking along the same lines of a long term rental in order to find the right location. I wouldn't rule out the Alemria region and a long term let allows for a fun relaxed exploration of the area and what it has to offer.

Paul
