Hi all,

My wife and I are both 52 and seeking a new life in Spain after our early retirement. The choice is unbelievable and mind blowing..I am still not 100% sure on where we will locate but I seem to keep coming back to Los Alcazares for some reason....

I need a lively and quite resort area to live so I have the choice all within walking distance or a short bus ride. So I am really looking for advice on best location for a youngish at heart couple.

I am also looking for new build, with walking distance to the beach.

If anybody can advice and point me in the right direction I will be very happy.

My plan is to buy and live there for a few months and finally move out 100% in 18 months..

Los Alcazares is a great choice...we live about 5 minutes away by car. There are some new build villas near to the beach and lots of amenities ...google Dream Casas ..Kathy Sanders has the new villas on her books.

Have you looked at Santiago de la Ribera...just a few minutes further along the Mar Menor....lovely resort but smaller and quieter the LA...although these are where the Spanish take their holidaysas well as lots of Brits so the summer months are busy....

Alcázares is on the Mar Menor which is not very good for swimming if you read the reports . You need to be on the Med for swimming in clear waters .

Yes La Torre has all that in a square and on the promenade. Cheers Mary

Hi Tom

Well Mary seems very anti the Mar Menor?? I swim in the water most of the summer having a small property bought in La Ribera, for a beach house as I live in Murcia city.

As Crissy said it is quieter than LA but has Lidl Aldi Mercadona and many other local shops, bars and restaurants all within walking distance there is also a local hotel which I have just booked into for a week as I am having building work carried out and it is 28 Euro a night so if you are exploring still it may be worth checking this out.

Anyway I hope you find what you are looking for I have been here for 20 lus years.

Kind regards

Ed

Agree with Eduardo...bad press for the Mar Menor but its lovely and warm for a dip in the summer and theres the added bonus of collecting your own almejas (clams!)

Hundreds swim in the water which is very safe and shallow for a long way out...lots of choice of little shops and cafes in Ribera and the large supermarkets in San Javier as well as the lovely town Hall Square and parish church in San Javier.
