Our Obogado has just announced she will now be on holiday until the 17th August!  No problem with that but she is at the beginning of applying for our NIEs; Residencia and Padrons!  Oh and opening the bank account.   Soooo- I think I remember someone posting that they'd done their Padrons on line?   anyone???

If the same as for us last year you will need your TIE or NIE before getting your padron.

We had to go to the town hall in person to get our padrons. Make sure you get one each, our original joint padron was not acceptable for our residencia applications.

Don't forget to get your driving licence exchanged for a Spanish one before the end of the year as well. We were advised by our solicitor that after that date it would require a  full test, conducted in Spanish.

Hi Phil,

1) Driving Licence - Can you expand on obtaining the driving licence please.   Did you go with an abogado?  Should we take an interpretor (we are only just learning Spanish)

2) Padron:  The form, which we downloaded, states that for the NIE we only need to produce DNI  or  NIE  or  Pasaporte.

Thanks in advance.

For driving licence we used the solicitors w gave power of attorney for our house purchase. We had to attend a "medical" that involved a few health questions, a computer based driving test (think Frogger) and parting with 40€ each. The document that was supplied then went to the solicitor along with our UK driving licence and a correct sized photo. The solicitor packed that all up and sent it of for processing, 3 months later we have our new Spanish one.

For padron  we managed to do it for ourselves even without, then, any usable Spanish. We took everything we could think of, passport, NIE, authorised copy of  our deeds. Better too much rather than not enough.

you dont need a solicitor for any of the processes you need and it will cost a lot more than you need to pay! If you’re coming to live in Los Alcazares you should contact Miguel at Liberty Seguros.

You cannot register for Padron online, you must go in person to the Town Hall.

You cannot have your Padron application completed online.

BUT what you can do, is grab this form and make sure you have filled it in completely and have all the documentation required.

Do this and you won't be visiting the Ayuntamiento multiple times.

Being new to Spain we felt happier paying for a service from our solicitor ather than getting it wrong with our very limited Spanish. There are people out there who offer a service and/or translation. At the time that we moved we knew of none of these. However wechave never felt our solicitors fees to be excessive and a drop in the ocean compared to all the other costs of selling, buying and moving.

Hi Roberto,

We have employed an Aborgado to do everything for us.  Even signed over power of attorney!   When we met she said everything should be settled within next 3-4 weeks.   Then we get an email saying she is going on holiday!

We thought we would download forms, complete and, as you helpfully say, ensure we have every last piece of documentation required!     Speed things up a little from our side.    But moving houses; packing and moving countries can addle your brain I'm told.  But I'm still to addled to know :-))
