Hi Everyone,

Thanks to Vic, Rich and everyone for the information. I too am looking to start the process, with a view to be over in Spain for the New Year.

We bought our house in 2018, with a view to moving there when I retire this year, so we have Bank accounts and NIE documents. Like everyone though, the Pandemic has prevented us from moving sooner.

I've found this information useful: http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/MANCHESTER/en/InformacionParaExtranjeros/Visados-CGM/Pages/Visados-de-larga-duracion-CGM.aspx    Scroll down to Residency

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/MANCHESTER/es/Documents/ENG%20NON%20LUCRATIVE%20VISA.pdf

Along with how to complete form EX-01

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/MANCHESTER/en/InformacionParaExtranjeros/Visados-CGM/Documents/como%20rellenar%20el%20EX01.pdf

I retire at the end of this year, so trying to get the timing right (particularly on time limited documents) will be crucial.

Many thanks. Frank

Hi Ang.  I was recommended to DKV and applied through Abbeygate.  Hayley was really helpful.  I did try direct to DKV but they took 3 weeks to respond by which time my application was almost complete. I am paying €1802 pa which i though was high but apparently is about right.

I notice the this link from Frank has different info from the London version.  i.e 2 copies of the National Visa application and 2 copies of passport photos.  it also states"spanish translation" but must be by a Sworn Translator appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and registered in the Spanish Consulate in London and in Spain.  Pages 631 to 639 on the huge list they give you.  The timescale seem totally different as well. I though you visited the Consulate and if all is OK, returned to collect your Visa.  If anybody knows what happens, please let us know.

Just to muddy the waters even further in my mind, I have relayed some of the information on here regarding applying in the UK BEFORE going to Spain to my Solicitor in Spain (who up to now has been absolutely brilliant and a great help). Their reply:

I can´t see how it´s possible to initially apply in the UK, when you have to obtain a padron here in Spain to submit the application in the first place. I haven´t had any residency applications rejected to date.

If you a) fit the criteria and b) can produce all translated documentation to prove so, then I can´t see how you will have a problem.

I'm going to go with them and continue my application through them...worse case scenario, I have the application rejected and have to start again!

Hi Frank.

There is no mention of the Padron in the consulate info and I would have thought that you need your confirmed Visa application to hand to allow you to travel.  I have seen reports that people are being stopped (wrongly) because they have no TIE that they are travelling to collect!.

Putting my head back under the muddy waters now!!

Thanks Vic......I've (attempted) to upload the information I received......

Based on this, I don't need Medical insurance if I have a S1 form, which will be quite a saver!

Hi Frank

It's obviously a bit different if you are applying in Spain.  I had intended getting my Padron last November but all plans were scuppered with travel restrictions!!  I will just copy every bit of paper I have (Deeds, NIE etc. to take with me to London.  My other problem is that I spent New Year in Berlin which means my 180 days started then so I need to get sorted by end of june. Hence my plan to fly on 22nd May.  S1 is a life saver in all senses!

We have taken out healthcare with Sanitas at €1362 for two of us. This was an offer price via our bank (Sabadell), with no pre-existing conditions and we're aged 48 & 50.

Hi Rich

You are slighly ahead of me.  I am still waiting for the Criminal Certificate.  The jpeg was too big and the reduced size was unclear so i posted a copy and i still have to get the Apostile Legalisation. Hopefully that wont be too long.  I am using  Lawyers in San Javier and t...

...hey booked my appointment.  First offer was 16th April but that was too soon so changed to 30th April.  So i would guess about 2 weeks. I have found a company for the Sworn translation that is about 20 minutes from me so just waiting for a price etc.  I am booked to fly out on 22nd May (fingers crossed) so I need to get everything completed by then!  I didn't know about the passport, I assumed that they just kept the photocopies .  Never realised how many pages a passport has!!  Please keep in touch so we can share any advice with each other and anyone else that needs it.

Vic L

We had to get a UK solicitor to notarise the certificates and we have just submitted them for the Hague Apostille at £30 per document, plus £5 for them to be returned by courier.

https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised

I phoned the service to enquire about turnaround times and the helpful chap advised that even though the website is advising 10 days, they are currently achieving 2-3 days from receipt, so I would very much hope we get ours back by the end of next week.

My Spanish solicitor has enquired about application appointments with the consulate, but won't book an actual date until she has confirmed that we have all the correct docs.

Recent comments on another forum suggest that the consulate should issue the visa within 2-4 weeks after the appointment, so we're likely to be moving to Spain at the same time as your flight!

I have followed the advice and used the list (1500 pages) to find someone to produce the traducción jurada.  Wrote to about 12 and only 3 replied. One was an auto response and another only did French to Spanish.

The one I used was prompt, friendly and I would recommend highly.  I e-mailed my certificates on Friday afternoon and received them back on sunday morning.  £30 per document.

Her details are

I confirm I am a Sworn Translator appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and registered in the Spanish Consulate in London and in Spain.

Below you can find the details for my sworn translation services (traducción jurada):

Delivery:

Electronic delivery: PDF of the sworn translation

The PDF has: my official stamp on all pages + my handwritten signature + certification + electronic signature issued by the Spanish government.

You can print this PDF if you need a hard copy.

Note that this format was approved as valid by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in April 2020:

Rebeca Encinas Manchado

Translator & Proofreader (EN, FR > ES)
Sworn Translator reg. 9729
BA Translation & Interpreting / MA Legal Translation

I hope this is of use to anyone trawling through the huge list.

Victor
