I have to go to Oficina de Extranjeria in Murcia to sign for my TIE.  Has anyone else attended here and know the protocol?  Also what size photo should I take.   Thanks.

The photo is the same size as the driving licence photo, if you get them done in a booth there should be an option for driving licence or DNI size choose that. If you go to a shop tell them what its for they know the size.

As for protocol, you go in through a scanner and a security check then put your NIE number in a machine which gives you a ticket with a number. There are screens which will show your number and which number entrance to go through and which desk.

Then you go to the assigned desk hand all your documents over they have a look, scan your photos and hand all your documents including photos back to you. If your switching from the old residencia to the TIE then they also do your fingerprints at this appt.

They then give you a piece of paper with a lote number and this is the number you use to check on the website for when you need to go and collect it, about 4 weeks later. It's another appt for collection but you just hand over this paper and they give you the card.

Its quite straightforward.

What a very clear, concise and helpful post.  Thank you, Dax.

We were told it was a smaller photo than the driving licence one...so particularly glad to have that cleared up.

There is just one more query re your reply.

You say scanner then a security check.  Is the security check verbal or a physical patdown please?

If verbal what sort of questions do they ask?   I am trying to learn the Spanish phrases I might need

to understand and give in response.

You put your belongings through a scanner like at the airport and they temperature check you     ( covid). There are police on the door checking people have appointments, I found them to be friendly and helpful.

They literally took my documents, took my fingerprints and it was all done within 5 mins with very little to no spanish needed, they demonstrated which finger to use each time for the fingerprinting and that was it . I do speak Spanish so maybe the guy I saw wasn't very talkative! There are staff there that speak English so I wouldn't worry about not understanding anything, they will help you.

One thing is the parking, it's limited street parking and the office is on a side road at the side of a dual carriageway so you may need to drive around and walk back to the office so give yourself a bit of time to find a spot. It's quite an industrial area and at the bottom of a hill.

Thank you, Dax,

I feel a lot less apprehensive now.

Be glad when we get through the basics of verbs & conjugation and start being able to hold spontaneous converations in any situation!  Getting quite good at ordering drinks and food tho :-))
