Hi I purchased a second hand car Last January and I am unsure if the annual car tax was paid by the previous owner/dealership?  The ITV was done last June, can anyone please advise on how I would check if it has been paid for 2022, also when in the year are these taxes due for 2023 in the LA area?

Whoever owns the car on the 1st January of a year is liable for the tax for that year.

I don't know how you can check the 2022 position, apart from asking the person / garage that you bought it from.

The new tax, as I've said, starts from 1st January, but commonly isn't required to be paid until March / April. As long as the car is correctly registered in your name and address, you should get a notification through the post.

Hope this helps (a bit!).

Hi thank you so much for responding, I didn't get any notification last year so I guess it was already paid.  I will pay this year's once I receive the bill.

Regards,

Alexa.

NIF put your NIE number.

The 'Tuition' box is your car registration number.

When you get the download it should say if there is any payment outstanding.

Hi Alexa.

I may well be wrong but I don't think you'll get a bill or a reminder. The best thing to do is get an appointment at the town hall and pay it/get a DD set up.

Wont necessarily get bil, rather depends if sale properly registered. DD takes 5 minutes at local town hall, may or may not need translator  depends on your Spanish their English.
