We visited  the town hall to pay our IBI Tax. We got a nasty surprise when the official presented us with 3 years of garbage charges complete with interest and penalties for late payment. We did not know about these charges or we would have paid them on time. We had trusted a solicitor to look after our tax affairs. Each bill is for one trimestre, which of course is 3 months  (you receive 4 bills each year)

But Does anybody know which 3 months for example trimestre number 1 is for garbage bills. I am aware the seasons are different in spain also.

The dates should be on the bill - I have just looked at one of mine, and it says ABR-MAI-JUN, so as Crissy says they follow the calendar year.

Thank you for responding,  there are no months showing on my bill, just trimestre 1, 2, 3 and 4. An annual bill includes trimestre 1 for the next year. That's why it is confusing. They may have charged me for some months before we even bought the house. However, I wouldn't even argue that now as we could not get an appointment with anyone English speaking at town hall.

You've bought a property in Spain and the language that is spoken in your local Ayuntamiento is Castellano! It's not up to them to supply you with a translator if you don't understand something that refers to your property. Then you should take someone who speaks Spanish with you to translate or better still, make an effort to learn the language sufficiently to be able to handle your own affairs. I sincerely doubt that your local town hall in the UK has any Spanish-speaking staff on hand to deal with any Spanish residents in the area!

Hi

So is this garbage bill charge separate from the IBI bill or is it included with-in it?

As by the sounds of things I may need to look into this too with our solicitors!

Thanks

Kind regards

Ryan

Thanks for your quick reply - much appreciated.

Do you think it would be possible that this is included as part of the community fees we pay as we live on a complex of 16 apartments?

I am just starting to look into this and I have seen on the budget for our community fees an allowance of 500 Euros for water, garbage and sewage, so am hoping this is included but have emailed the management company and our solicitor to check.

Thanks again

Ryan

I think you are ok if you are part of a complex, the community fees would probably cover that cost. We are different.

Thanks  - hopefully this is the case.

Does anyone know if this garbage collection charge is called 'Basura'? As it looks like this is noted as a charge on our water bill from Aqualia. Could this be correct?! If you are with Aqualia too it may be worth checking your bill maybe.

I am awaiting for clarification from my solicitor.

Hope you get things sorted.

Thanks

Ryan
