Could I please have any assistance/ ideas in replacing my utility firm Iberdrola to another firm As I found expensive. As we have only been in our property since September and have just received a bill for November/ December of just over 60 Euros in total. We was only there for under two weeks and used only the air conditioning heated unit sparsely with heating our water using a immersion heater on timer. Could someone tell us that this is an average bill or expensive please.

If you look at your bill it will show the fixed costs (meter rental, basic contract) which may well be 20 or more Euros per  month with the actual kwh used shown separately. Power is expensive in Spain and swapping suppliers seems to show little difference.

We are moving from Malaga Province and our average monthly bill is around 120€, but we are all electric in a largish house with a pool - one of the reasons for our move!

It's the standing charges that are expensive you pay for amount of kW power you have supplied to your house. We are with Iberdrola just dropped the potentcia as they call it from 5.75kw to 4.6 kW saves around 90 euro's per year cost to change is around 11 euro . We have no air con or electric heater so don't need that much kW power.

Where do you read the potentcia relating to your property, does it appear on each ?

How did you go about reducing it, in writing to Iberdrola or phone call ?

Thanks

Hi

The potentcia is on your bill top left corner  its Multiplied by the amount of days and cost per kW so it should look like 5.75 X 87 X 0.1275 = whatever

I visited the office in pilar de haradada and requested them to do it charge was 10.75 euro.you can do a calculation on their website it estimates how much potentcia you need for your home. Makes sure you dont drop it to much though because Iv read it costs around 300 euro to put it back up. You can do it by phone, think they have stopped doing it on there website I could not find the option when trying to reduce mine.so I popped in the shop when last in Spain

Hope this helps reply if you need any more info just reply

Just be careful that as rustyhind says you do not go down too far. It can be really annoying to turn the kettle on for a cuppa and plunge the house into darkness. If there is any chance that in the future you may want to install aircon (best form of economical heating IMHO) then you need to allow for that. Your boletin will tell you what your wiring is built to take at the top end.

Thanks for the information, it is 5.75 as you indicated.

We don`t live there full time as yet and have to say, so far at least, we have not had an outage when actually over there....interestingly enough we do have the odd outage some mornings but nobody is there !

We had an outage for 48 hours during the bad weather in December, Iberdrola arranged an electrician but the power returned before he arrived, so something to keep an eye on.

Iberdrola have also offered an alternative tariff for use at non peak times, something we will look at sometime....especially the conditions and penalties

Appreciate the feedback, thanks

Anthony
