Winter weather

Hi Sharon. We spent last winter in Los Alcazares. Up to the end of December, it was pretty warm during the day but gets a little chilly in the evenings. January was cooler and you will probably need a light coat. February was the coldest month where you will need a coat. Having said that, it's still maybe 12 or 13 during the day at worst so much better that UK. I would suggest you need heating in your house, but aircon units will heat well enough and for us did not seem too expensive. you will also find that not that many restuarants and bars are open over winter.

Hi Jeff, many thanks for your reply. That’s great thanks,just what I thought. It’s one of 4 areas we are interested in,hoping to come over in February to check the place out. If a lot of the bars,restaurants etc are closed I suppose there are not many tourists about. Cheers Sharon. 

Yes, it's fairly quiet but some people like it that way and I guess it helps to have a hobby. The local markets are great especially for fruit and veg. We both play golf and the area is very good for that. I also must enrol on a Spanish learning course. We are going over in October and plan to stay for most of the winter.

Last January and February in Los Alcazares was cooler than average so not really typical.

The weather stats at the nearby San Javier Airport will tell you that daytime temperatures in winter vary from 18c in December, 16c in January and 17c in February with nights about 7c to 8c so very much like May in the UK.

We visited twice last January and were able to walk about with just a jumper on and it felt warm in the sun, evenings however were very cool, winter in Murcia is remarkably sunny with 6-7 hours per day on average.

Not all AC units heat, so check that. Given that Spanish houses are built to be fairly dark and cool in the summer, they do get chilly inside in winter. I used fan heaters just to take the edge off when I arrived in March. But then I had arrived from Australia! Yes daytimes outdoors are very pleasant.

😊 A bit further North, in Brisbane. Was 35° when I left!  A bit like here now! Enjoy Yr trip. 

I have lived in Los Alcazares permanently for 11 years.It is cold in February and March and rains.Most ladies wear black tights, leggings or skinny jeans.You will certainly need a thick warm jacket.Not a good month for you to come as it will be totally dead.However a good time to look around.

Most Aircon now is hot and cold but expensive to run so you need alternative heating like the odd oil filled radiator.

Obviously I like living here.I hope you do
