Hi all,

I’m about to embark on a new journey and I’m a bit worried. I’m coming with my little kid and our two dogs. Can you tell me if there are any places where to walk dogs? From all the pictures I see of Los Nietos it looks like there’s not many green areas/parks.. :( do you just walk your doggies in the streets? Where can they play with other dogs?

Thanks

Mira

Hi Mira. If you look on google maps there is a large area of what is essentially scrubland just north of the main promenade ie: At the San Javier sud I’d Los Nietos. I feel sure I have seen dogs being walked on the spare ground to the South of the town also

Good luck with your move

I've seen quite a few people taking their dogs into the nature reserve at the northern end of the beach plus a lot of people tend to walk their dogs up and down the promenade.

Thanks Ian! Unfortunately at first I won’t have a car, so it must be walking distance. Thanks a lot, seems like I won’t be the only one with dogs, so I’m sure there are places.. :)

Cheers

You won't need a car, it's only a mile from one end of the village to the other.  And it's an excuse for a coffee or two on the walk👍👍

Jst a reminder to check the temperature of the roads/ pavements surfaces to make sure you do not give your doggie paws third degree burns within seconds. After about 09.00 to about 20.00pm the pavements are hot enough to cook meat on during the summer months.

If in doubt put your bare foot on the ground to test.

Be warned if caught out in such conditions with a pet you can face a hefty fine from the Guardia Civil. They treat animal cruelty very seriously, fortunately for our animals.

Walkies are usually limited to first thing in the morning or last thing at night during the 8 or so hot months in Spain.

Wow I was not aware of that!! Thanks for the heads up! I have been in south of Spain but I don’t remember it being that hot... and yes, I’m glad animal rights are taken seriously. Wish that was also the case with bulls. Anyway, thanks a lot, will keep that in mind and I will test the pavement myself when In doubt..
