This has recently been publicised after becoming a growing issue in the UK too.
The sums involved are often small 'insufficient postage was paid to deliver your parcel - please click here to pay £1.67 to ensure delivery', so people feel it's only a small payment, but obviously, once they have your credit card details a lot more can happen.

Just yesterday had a call in UK from the mobile number - the message was that my NI number will be deleted! But if I press 1 an issue will be sorted... what a looser.
Another was couple weeks ago from the land-line telling me a warrant has been issued, obviously press 1 again. Went to check and report the number online - address for it was HM Tower of London! Don't know how they doing it!
It's very dangerous as people loosing the millions on the big scale, friend of mine only got stopped by Barclay's as transaction was suspicious. Didn't helped my son's mate when crooks cleared his bank account, around 8k..
